    N. T. Wright

Reading Tom Wright has really helped me to get a grip on the bible - I learn as much from just seeing how he thinks as from what he actually writes! I would love to sit down with him and ask him questions though, because I think there are one or two loose ends with some some of his ideas. That's...

    What are you reading?

I'm reading "Five Smooth Stones for Pastoral Work" by Eugene Peterson - it was recommended to me and I haven't really got into the meat of it yet, but I like his ideas of rooting pastoral work in the bible first and foremost, rather than modern psychology. I'm also reading "The New Testament and...

    What's your favourite song?

Well I wouldn't say its my favorite song, but for the past week I haven't been able to stop singing "she's a brick...HOUSE!" and its starting to drive me quite barmy.

    Gerard Manley Hopkins

How amazing is this??? Make sure you read it out aloud... God's Grandeur The world is charged with the grandeur of God. It will flame out, like shining from shook foil; It gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil Crushed; Why do men then now not reck his rod? Generations have trod, have...

So what are you reading right now?

Man, that is a really good book. I've been reading his Romans commentary in the New Interpreter's Bible. Its really interesting - I can't say I'm convinced by absolutely all of his ideas, but he really gets you thinking! I have a very special place in my heart for the good bishop of Durham :)

    What have you learned?

Hi Karen! I've been well - I was accepted by the diocese to train for ordination, so I've just been really busy trying to sort all of that out - there's a bit of malarkey going on with training colleges, but I'm sure it'll all be sorted out. How have you been? I think one thing I've learned is...

    What have you learned?

Hi everyone! Wow, I haven't been here in a while! I thought perhaps we could all share something that we have learned since being on STR, something that another may have opened our mind to or made you think about differently etc.

    A quote from St Augustine

I thought I might share this... "What do I love when I love my God? Not physical beauty, or the splendour of time; not the radiance of earthly light, so pleasant to our eyes; not the sweet melodies of harmony and song; not the fragrant smell of flowers, perfumes and spices; not manna or honey...

    McGrath and Dawkins

Here is a link to the footage of Alister McGrath and Richard Dawkins that was left out of Dawkin's documentary: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6474278760369344626&hl=en-GB Worthy of a look!

    I Give Up

But as difficult and hard as it may be, there are sheep and goats. That said, I think most of the things we disagree on here are secondary matters. It is a shame that we can't celebrate what we share more often.

    Who?

Wow Karen. You are so right. There I am quoting a creed as though Jesus was some kind of cold reductionist formula rather than a person who loves us and knows us and died for us and that we can know too. You have just absolutey hit the nail on the head. Thankyou for setting me straight. It may...

    excommunication

Is it possible that the reason why Paul didn't excommunicate, but rather educated, in the cases of doctrinal error is because it was the first generation of the church and new believers were still trying to grapple with the whole thing and work it out? It wasn't like they had a few hundred years...

This poem is so beautiful that I thought I would share it with you for your reading pleasure :) THE CALL by George Herbert Come, my Way, my Truth, my Life, such a way as gives us breath, such a truth as ends all strife, such a life as killeth death. Come, my Light, my Feast, my Strength, such...
