    Thongs VS Jandals

Kiwis = Jandals Aussies = Thongs There is no such underwear as a 'thong' in Australia, it's called a g-string (at least, that's what I think a 'thong' is).

Michael Tait announced as new lead singer for Newsboys

According to an announcement on their website, Michael Tait as replaced Peter Furler as lead singer of Newsboys. Peter will still be involved with songwriting and production for the band but will now only be making occasional guest appearances on stage. Personally I'm sad to see Peter leave...

MANDATORY 'NET CENSORSHIP IN AUS. a la NORTH KOREA, IRAN.

You believe that now, however as there is no accountability regarding what the DCITA may blacklist, it is only a matter of time before things other than someone's "favourite inappropriate content site" gets added to the list, e.g. sexual health sites, sites regarding eating disorders, euthanasia are all likely...

MANDATORY 'NET CENSORSHIP IN AUS. a la NORTH KOREA, IRAN.

Have a read of this news article. I have pasted a few pertinent points from it below (emphasis mine) http://www.smh.com.au/news/technology/biztech/net-censorship-plan-backlash/2008/11/11/1226318639085.html

Not good enough. I'm sick of this 'the parents won't do it so the Government needs to be the parent' attitude that seems to pervade our society. Perhaps the Government needs to devise ways to encourage parents to do their job, but they certainly shouldn't be doing it for them.

I find that strange considering that the estimates on the slowdown are coming from network engineers from reputable ISPs e.g. Mark Newton of Internode. Do you think he's making it up, or perhaps he has legitimate reasons for the figures he presents Use OpenDNS then, it will prevent that...

Electronic Frontiers Australia (EFA) is running a the No Clean Feed campaign. It lists (in order of effectiveness) a number of actions Australians may take to express their opposition to this policy including telephoning or writing to the Minister for Communications, your local Member of...

Another article on the topic. http://www.pcauthority.com.au/BlogEntry/127342,australian-internet-filters-have-backdoor.aspx WESTERNdeitySIXmoths - I think you are right. It seems no-one (on here at least) does care about this topic.

Tired of incompetent and unintelligent American leaders

Well, from all the reports we're getting in Australia, Obama has won :) Well done USA for not electing that other guy! :D

Dark Legacy of the Howard years

I don't believe its absurd. The policy of the Government led by John Howard put this man in a place where he was likely to be killed. He can't just wash his hands and pretend this man's death (and perhaps numerous others like it) aren't his fault - clearly they are. When a Government makes...

Yeah plenty of people care, but not too many here apparently. Try http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=967413 for a several hundred page discussion on the topic. Most Christians seem to support mandatory Internet censorship, but this to me seems largely to stem from an...

Dark Legacy of the Howard years

The man's blood is on Howard's hands. He is no better than a murderer IMO, if only he could be given the same punishment.

Who's going to pay for the Abortion? You and me

So what you're saying is you have no problem with mass medication of the public? No to mention all the severe side effects the hormones contained in those implants can have. They're not 100% effective, either.

    Vegetarianism and kids/pregnancy

I see no reason that children need to eat meat and/or dairy products any more than adults do - which is not at all. Interestingly, here in Australia there was a book published by the CSIRO (a Government research agency) recommending a fairly high consumption of red meat. It was later...

Which political party/system do you support?

Blame the IOC for that - they awarded the Olympics to a country with such an atrocious human rights record. Now I'm not saying Australia's human rights record is perfect (far from it, and unfortunately it seems to have gotten worse over the last decade) but China's is far worse in comparison...

    The Alcopops issue

If the Government feels the need to impose an alcohol excise for whatever reason, it should not be a selective one. The tax should be a fixed amount per ml of pure alcohol contained in the drink. The 'alcopops' tax is very unfair both to the consumers who drink them responsibly and to the...
