What MUST I believe to become Orthodox?

What MUST I believe to become Orthodox? Give me the entirety, if it has been defined. You can skip the most obvious elements such as the resurrection (though some of the most liberal "Christians" would question that too) as I am more interested in getting to the finer points.

What is the OC view of the inerrancy of Scripture?

Just curious what the OC view is on the inerrancy of Scripture? Obviously, Protestants are all over the map on this one from the fundamentalist view to the more liberal views of the UCC, and some Lutherans and Episcopalians. Are either, or neither, Scripture or Tradition for that matter...

I cannot find salvation (in print)

I am sure I once read a simple explanation of salvation on the OCA web site, where I have gathered much of what I know about Orthodoxy. I believe it broke it down into: 1. faith/acceptance 2. baptism 3. receiving of the Spirit I cannot locate it, or any other good explanation. Any help?

Anyone else in this forum a fan of extreme fighting?

Anyone else in this forum a fan of no-holds barred/mixed martial arts/extreme fighting sports? I am just curious because I spend a great deal of my CF time on TAW and wondered if anyone has common interests. From my username, some may have guessed my fondness of such sports. I love training...

    Sex during pregnancy?

I posted this in the Orthodox forum and it would not do justice to ignore the Catholic response. Therefore: If anybody remembers/cares, I am one of those that does not agree with the RCC position on at least some forms of contraception. A question of curiousity struck me: Do the RCC teachings...

    Sex during pregnancy?

If anybody remembers/cares, I am one of those that does not agree with the EOC position on at least some forms of contraception. A question of curiousity struck me: Do the EOC teachings forbid sex during pregnancy, as there is no chance of procreation?

Please clarify the history and theology of the divorce matter

It is alarming how casual some churches have become about divorce and remarriage. That being said, the OC is certainly not as strict in its stance as the RCC and many fundamentalist protestants. Historically, what evidence is there on when the different views shaped place? Why does the OC...

Can I keep my cantankerous nature in the OC?

I am not a joyous person, plain and simple. I view life as though 500 pounds is sitting on my chest at all times and...maybe if I squirm the right way, I can knock a little bit off, but that's about it. Growing up Evangelical Wesleyan, I tried to go through the motions, but I'm just not a warm...

What do Orthodox believe on who goes to Heaven, Hell, or elsewhere?

Sometime last year, I posted a question asking if the EO believes in purgatory. I was told Orthodox do NOT believe in purgatory. However, I recently read something to suggests that Orthodox do indeed believe in some purification of the soul before Heaven??? Please elaborate and expand, or...

What does the EO teach of Revelations?

The Book of Revelations is where I was taught about the coming Rapture in my Nazarene upbringing. Until a couple years ago, I had no idea that anyone in Christianity had any differing view. I can see how they interpret Revelations to project such a scenario (global government, mark of the...

The significance of the virginity of Mary?

I'll probably ask this in the OO and RCC forums as well. From what I understand, you do not believe that Mary actually determines your salvation, which I would certainly agree with, having been raised Protestant. Some Protestants believe Mary had other children, but Orthodox and...

Is ANY addiction ALWAYS a sin?

Is addiction ALWAYS a sin? I'm throwing this out there to get some thoughts. The example that comes to mind is my addiction to soda pop. I am absolutely convinced that I will never be able to go without my soda pop. I drink about 3-4 liters per day, a little less in the winter, up to 10...

Ethical issues with owning a bar/tavern

I have an opportunity to be an investing partner/owner in your average run-of-the-mill bar that is for sale. In some ways, it would be an ideal business. I like to talk to people, although I'm not persuasive enough to be real prosperous as a salesperson in my current position. I'm a nightowl...

What in the world is wrong with Ottawa Senators fans?

So, I spent a cold, rainy afternoon here in Pennsylvania tuning in to watch what was, to my delight, my beloved Penguins tie the series with the Ottawa Senators and I noticed something. The crowd booed everytime Sydney Crosby touched the puck. Why? Because he's good and plays for the opposing...

    Definition of salvation?

Simply put, where in the Bible does it define salvation as a "personal relationship with Jesus Christ"? What does this mean?

The differences/similarities of the EOC vs. OOC as compared to the RCC?

I posted this in the EOC forum and wanted to run it here too to see what kind of answers I get. I've been away from CF for sometime now, due to preparing for some difficult exams. For those that do not remember me, I have been looking at Orthodoxy as I try to determine exactly where I want to...

The differences/similarities of the EOC vs the OOC as compared to the RCC

I'm going to post something similar in the OOC forum to see what kind of response I get there. I've been away from CF for sometime now, due to preparing for some difficult exams. For those that do not remember me, I have been looking at Orthodoxy as I try to determine exactly where I want to...

What are the Orthodox views on purgatory?

What are the Orthodox views on purgatory and how does it differ from the Catholic view? Sorry, but I couldn't find it in Becoming Orthodox thusfar and I don't have time for an exhaustive forum search today.

Which of these books on Orthodoxy should I take to read on vacation?

I'll be gone for a week and probably need to do some reading. I have three books on Orthodoxy that I ordered some time ago. The first is "The Orthdox Way" by Bishop Ware, the second is "The Orthodox Church" again by Bishop Ware, and the last one is "Becoming Orthodox" by Peter E Gillquist.The...

I need to pass this exam Monday

This pales in comparison to many of the requests I've seen listed here, but I am taking my insurance license exam Monday at noon. I would appreciate any prayers and also for me to find success in this venture, I hope. I desperately need to leave the dead-end job I'm in, stop working this...
