Try this theologian quiz. Who are you?

I got Tillich, which I suppose is unsurprising as I've been buried in his writing for a couple of months now for my thesis. Next was Anselm, Calvin, Luther, and Schleiermacher. I'm just waiting for someone to pop up with Jonathan Edwards, lol.

Can I join you guys too?

Football joke. I'm entirely willing to go on record as having no quarrel with any breed of cat, even those lacking tails.

Can I join you guys too?

That's just because they don't know you support the Mancs. Once that gets out you'll probably get the boot.

    Who here has a degree?

I'm heading into my last year of a BA (Hon) in Religious Studies/Philosophy now, and I'll certainly agree that it's a distinctly impractical sort of thing to be doing. I'm headed for grad school next (MA in philosophy, I think) and then onward to who knows what. My long-term plan is Ph. D. and a...

    Favorite Liberal Christian Author!

If that's the case then I'd jump into Tillich's more academic works. Try The Courage to Be, or Biblical Religion and the Search for Ultimate Reality.

    Favorite Liberal Christian Author!

If you find Borg dry then my favourite author will probably kill you, but I have to throw Paul Tillich out there. If you're looking around then try starting with books containing his published sermons, as opposed to his lecture-based material or systematics. The New Being or Eternal Now are good...

    Bishop Spong Q&A on Revelation

Just as a note, the textual evidence seems to indicate that the John of Revelation is a different author than that of the epistles and the Gospels. The writing style is wildly different, both in terms of composition and vocabulary.

    [open] Is Anyone Else...

I'm about a year and two weeks away from graduation (at least for my first degree), so I'm kind of swamped here. Getting through it though, and I promise I'll be bored once we get to May.

    [open] Original Sin

Teilhard was a Jesuit and paleontologist who developed some teleological ideas around evolution, which he thought would eventually lead to a higher human state. I'm not too familiar with him, and I'm sure CaDan can elaborate, but he took similar cues from his discoveries about human evolution...

    Rap

Around since the 80s? Go check out the Last Poets and get back to me. They dropped in 1969, and are one of the greatest influences on contemporary socially conscious rap. Even they are only a continuation on the street and rhythmic poetry traditions that were prevalent in the urban black...

    "Biblical Worldview" Test Questions

For me it was just a matter of not wanting to get spammed by any of their crap, which is the only reason that they ask for an address like that. It goes straight to a robot who mails out whatever inane gibberish they want to. I'm not sure whether Jesus ever spoke about the ethics concerning...

Orval, Rogue Chocolate Stout, Timothy Taylor's Landlord, Chimay Grand Reserve (Blue), Unibroue Trois Pistoles, St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout, anything from Propeller ( a local micro), especially their Revolution Imperial Stout, Duvel, Fuller's 1845, Dogfish Head 90 min IPA.

Mixed expressions at my church - what do you think?

No worries, I'll keep it quiet. For what it's worth, there's often resistance to change and modernization at older churches like that. I dated a girl who's father was a pastor at a baptist church on the south shore, and remember all too vividly the conflicts that got stirred up between the...

Mixed expressions at my church - what do you think?

You're not at Emmanuel Baptist in Hammond's Plains by any chance, are you? Sorry if that's too personal, but I'm from NS, and I've actually been to that church a couple of times. Just funny to be able to associate a real actual place that I've been to with an internet forum.
