    Questions about Mormonism

My whole family is Mormon. I love Mormon people. I do not, however, love the LDS church and its ability to hurt people, its truth claims, and the way it hides its history from member of the LDS church.

    The Matter of Authority (LDS)

There's no problem with the sites that were cited. Each one shows a scanned copy of Joseph Smith's writing. I don't see how that could be "omit[ing] important facts". I love the 'would you go to McDonald's to learn about Burger King, etc' straw man. Of course I would! And I would go to Wendy's...

The witnesses later explained that they had a vision or viewed the plates through the eye of faith.

    The Matter of Authority (LDS)

Forget using the Bible, just read LDS history. That's all the evidence you could ever need :)

    In awe of J.Smith ?

I remember as a missionary meeting with the whole mission on Christmas Eve-ish to have a "party". Good food and stuff. I do remember, though, the mission president spending most of the time reciting D&C 135 (the one that praises Joseph Smith), while crying, and talking about JS. Not much focus...

    For critics...

I didn't stop. 6. Become more interested in LDS history 7. Read as much as you can about it. 8. Notice the differences in actual history vs. LDS "history" 9. Think it over. And the rest is history. The great thing about doing the five steps you talk about is it leaves out anything that...

No, I am not. I'm not sure what I am.

    In awe of J.Smith ?

It's something you pick up in the Missionary Training Center. Missionaries, in my opinion, are very manipulative. Joseph Smith is held in very highly in the LDS church. Sometimes you can go to church for three hours and hear more praise about JS than for Jesus. It's quite disturbing.

LDS: Handshake Test in D&C 129

Actually, it is. The revelation was received during 1843 around the time Joseph introduced the endowment. The both involve handshakes as a way to identify a true messenger of God. So you can see they are similar.

LDS: Handshake Test in D&C 129

Oh, come on now. We both know about the temple endowment and what is shown. There is a test involving a certain handshake.

Why don't Christians see LDS has the complete truth?

Thanks. Indeed, it is life changing. For example, I no longer know what to think of my "eternal marriage". Once it was a truth Joseph Smith taught so families could be together forever. Now I see it as a clever spin Joseph Smith used to collect as many wives as possible and to pass it off as...

Why don't Christians see LDS has the complete truth?

Sure. It's the usual stuff. As for reasons to that led to a crisis of faith - where to start My wife of almost three years has chronic illness. She's been sick from a month before our engagement. Multiple hospital visits, ER trips, priesthood blessings, prayers, etc. Finally the doctors were...

Why don't Christians see LDS has the complete truth?

Used to post here a lot a few years ago. Things have changed. I no longer believe the LDS church to be the one and only true church. I don't believe in much of its claims, either. An interesting path led me to this conclusion. The amount of effort it takes to apologize for polygamy, The Book...

    Mormonism & the (Non-)Virgin Birth

I believe in the Virgin Birth. I've never been taught otherwise. Go figure.
