    Has anyone visited this monastery?

Dear friends in Christ, Have any of you visited the Holy Dormition monastery in Rives Junction, Michigan? I was thinking about making a pilgrimage there and I wanted to know which airport is the closest....it seems that it would be either Detroit or Lansing?? Also how long is the drive from...

Women of TAW: Where do you draw the line?

And just to add that it really depends too upon our state in life. I am a housewife so I don't feel the pressure that a career woman may feel to have botox or micordermabrasion or whatever so that she looks fresh and vibrant to meet her work challenges. Although, it really saddens me to see...

Women of TAW: Where do you draw the line?

Great topic that often enters my thoughts. I think the key is moderation. I tried to go grey since I had not really made a habit of coloring my hair. But instead of a nice salt and pepper look I had these strange blotches of grey here and there. So I began to color again but I decided to do...

    First inquirers class tonight

Enjoy your class! We certainly have enjoyed ours and we always look forward to learning more about the faith. We are always asking lots of questions and Father is always more than accomodating. We had some similar thoughts as yours but they dissipated. Don't worry.....

Best place for an Orthodox Christian to live in the US

Just wanted to say thanks for all the great replies! It is good to hear from people all over the map. I guess I would like the best of both worlds....a good parish where we are comfortable and can grow spiritually as well as the benefits of frequent visits to a monastery where we could...

    Orthodox view of Pope

Yes, those are my words because that is his concern. (btw I received these questions second hand) I did not have a relationship with any of the priests at my previous parish so I have no fears nor do I feel I as if I have to give them an answer. My mind was made up about Orthodoxy many years ago.

Best place for an Orthodox Christian to live in the US

I know what you mean about Cali... Looks like it is often better being close to a big city because if you are stuck somewhere out in the boondocks then it could be quite difficult. And dh really prefers to be in a more established Church so he is not interested in helping to build a...

    Orthodox view of Pope

I know what you mean. This is the first reaction I get from many Catholics which is normal since it has been ingrained into Catholic minds since day one. "You are not under the Pope?" is a question often asked. I can totally understand this question. I don't mean this in a negative sense...

Best place for an Orthodox Christian to live in the US

Thanks Orthocat! I am familiar with this website so I'll look at again.....and the one that is the Church locator also. I guess I'm interested in people's experience or people they know who are pleased with where they live because of the above conditions mentioned. Thanks again for your help...

Best place for an Orthodox Christian to live in the US

Dear friends in Christ, I was wondering...if you could live anywhere in the US and wanted to live where there were numerous Orthodox Churches and a fervent Orthodox community and close to an Orthodox monastery and....where would you choose to live? I'm just asking since we are considering...

    Orthodox view of Pope

Thanks for the welcome! I don't know how I missed your message before. Must be old age! Ha! I've been lurking a long time and been on the road to Orthodoxy even longer. Thank God I've finally made it!

Actually I do not have an issue with this. I was just asking to see how others would respond to these questions. Thanks to all who responded. Peace! Marie

Oh, sorry about that...I thought I changed my Religious affiliation months ago. Apparently I did not so I am in the process of changing it to Eastern Orthodox.

    Orthodox view of Pope

Dear friends in Christ, I am mostly a lurker here but now I have a question especially for former Catholics but anyone else can chime in too. I am a former Catholic converting to the Eastern Orthodox Church. Praise God!! A Catholic priest posed 2 questions....what about in the Gospel where...

    Help in understanding

Mina, I think this is the problem. This CO gentleman I spoke about grew up in Egypt and often saw marriage between Coptic Orth. and Coptic Catholics. So he thinks it is not a big deal when people of the two different faiths marry. So is that the case in Egypt...a Coptic Orthox. can marry a...
