SDA please explain the failed prediction of Ellen White (SDA Prophet)

Jesus stated that no one knows the day or the hour, except the Father. I think this is why the most common explanation in the early Church (and in Ellen White for that matter), was that Matthew 16:27 clearly speaks of the second coming, but that Matthew 16:28, and the parallel accounts in the...

Ellen White: Meat eating weakens moral powers

This is, of course, not an all Ellen White thread Bob. We are discussing Scripture as well, such as these texts indicating the Israelites may eat as much meat as they desire, according to the blessing of the Lord: Deuteronomy 12:15 “However, you may slaughter and eat meat within all your...

SDA please explain the failed prediction of Ellen White (SDA Prophet)

I think Bob, etc. who have mentioned Jonah are quite correct in citing a scriptural principle in Jeremiah. I don't see that as circular reasoning, etc. Jeremiah 18:7-10 7 The instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, to pull down, and to destroy it, 8 if that...

SDA please explain the failed prediction of Ellen White (SDA Prophet)

Yes, they would not say that they correct the Bible itself, because they accept the Bible as inspired, and the test of doctrine. Rather, they say that her writings correct inaccurate interpretations of Scripture. However, in practice, if Ellen White spells out a view of the meaning of a text...

Ellen White: Meat eating weakens moral powers

An interesting discussion, but there are a number of threads on that topic. This is on the topic of whether meat eating weakens moral powers. Perhaps @The Liturgist would be willing to start a thread on the topic.

SDA please explain the failed prediction of Ellen White (SDA Prophet)

I was an Adventist for most of my life, and an Adventist pastor. But eventually I could not reconcile some of the doctrine with Scripture. It was not easy to come to that conclusion. And it is not bad to still review at times, and try to look at it objectively.

Review and Herald, September 6, 1906, Ellen White The statement which you quote from "Testimony," No. 31, that "in these letters which I wrote, in the Testimonies I bear, I am presenting to you that which the Lord has presented to me. I do not write one article in the paper, expressing merely...

Ellen White: Meat eating weakens moral powers

I don't think there is any direct connection. Ellen White discouraged lots of sugar as well. There are Adventist vegetarian diets that help reduce diabetes. Our church had a program, similar to the CHIP program (Coronary Health Improvement Program), but geared towards diabetes, that community...

Ellen White: Meat eating weakens moral powers

The content of the lyrics, and the characteristics of the music itself play a role. The question might make an interesting thread somewhere. The purpose of this thread is to look at evidence that meat eating caused weakened moral power in the case of the Israelites, and that God wanted to limit...

Ellen White indicates Miller's message of Jesus coming in 1843 was "heavenly".

Jesus was about to take His throne as King of the Jews. The disciples gave a correct message: Mark 11:9-10 9 Then those who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!’ 10 Blessed is the kingdom of our father David...

Seventh-day Adventist denomination - said to be 5th largest Christian denomination world-wide

The denomination's charts of course, not mine. And they don't leave it unexplained at all. You have added many, and lost many. You are now losing 7 for every 10 you add, from the reports of your denomination. I am sure the statistics folks at the denomination are not just reporting this due...

In fact Bob, the study shows they accept the belief statement. But then when asked about particulars it shows that they do not really believe in the Trinity at all, as the study points out that they do not see the personhood of the Spirit. Hence their conclusion (not my conclusion): 5. These...

But, the Adventists who participated in the survey from Ukraine were much more Trinitarian. Most (85%) GCMS 2022–23 respondents wholeheartedly believe in the Triune God (i.e., one God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, a unity of three eternal, equal Persons). Another 11% accept this teaching...
