    Multi-culturalism

Incredibly important to us, that is one reason we love living in the inner city, our kids are exposed to many different cultures in our area, there are somthing like 26 different ones within a 6 block radius. We love that our kids are exposed to this, and we are the minority in our...

Age that you think it okay to let your child ride public transportation alone?

Uh, never?? We live in a big city with lots of gang activity, homeless, which I've run into several times with me and my kids together. So, not happening, alone, until they are adults and even then I will advise group travel, wise/unwise times to travel, etc. They are already learning street...

Changes in opinion about family size.

yes, I wanted MAYBE 2 and hubby wanted 7. So we decided to take it one at a time, and see where the Lord leads. We have 4 now, having a great time with our kids, loved having babies, and we're not sure if we're done yet.

    Lil' Miss Attitude!

Weeellll, it really depends on YOUR personality as a parent, how you will decide to deal with this. I happen to be the type that goes for NOT ONE little iota of disrespect, so even a shoulder shrug, or certain look, will get a reprimand from me (even if it's just a little "hey, that's...

What age did you get your kids a "real" Bible?

My kids started reading a regular Bible in School, around third grade, but at home to read for quiet times, they used the Picture Bible until around 6th grade (age 12), and then progressed to interest in a real Bible for quiet times.

    Another Laurie Question on Tweens

Body piercing and tattoos should wait until 18 imo. They make semi-permanent / permanent marks on the body, and I think one should be somewhat of an adult before making the decision. It shouldn't be just a phase. Just my opinion. PLUS, I personally think body piercings can be rather...

    Swimsuits

Tan lines??? Well, a 10 year old worried about tan lines, sounds to me like someone grew up too fast already, hate to say it.:( I would be willing to bet, that's simply her excuse to wear the bikini she wants to wear (and you sympathize, it sounds like). She's still gonna get tan lines, even...

Do you worry about the parenting choices you've made?

:sorry: I try not to. Every parent has anxiety about something. I pray a lot and then move forward. Most of the time I'm confident in the parenting choices we've made. But it's normal to struggle and question. There are so many variables. All glory to Our Lord for wisdom and anything...

    Swimsuits

You're setting a precedent right now. It's up to you what you want her to wear in public, but once you allow it now, you aren't going to be able to change your mind when she's 15 or 16, has a cute little body, and wants to show it off with her friends at the beach. If it's not important to...

If you could choose your number of children...

Ha! You too, eh? I am TERRIFIED to be pregnant again, because my ENTIRE personality changes. It's really wierd. I become this horrible person  (I can't tolerate people, everything makes me sick, I have severe headaches and I want to sleep continually, and did I say I start hating...

    Is it abuse

You know, it could be viewed on the opposite end, too, "is it abuse to force your kids to go out and run". It's most definitely not abuse (which is intentional harm), what you have described in the o.p., may be a tad neglectful (and what parent isn't guilty of overlooking or accidentally...

If you could choose your number of children...

6, I don't know why. I guess that seems like a fun number. 4 is really, really great, though. We are really liking 4. We could just stay here at 4 forever if that's where the Lord wants it. This way I see sleep in my future............

    Does age matter, and why??

For us, age doesn't matter, because we have taken our cues from the Lord. We are still waiting to "hear" if we're done yet, or if there is another in our future, even though it's already been 4 plus years since our last! We're getting older by the minute, but I don't really feel "too old"...

    Does age matter, and why??

When planning your family, does it matter to you how old you are when you are "done" having kids? Why?

What is wrong with the youth in our culture?

My 2 cents: I think in general kids are "feeling" the neglect of parents who are focused on "having it all", and they aren't getting the attention they need at home. They are deeply angry. On top of it, they are not disciplined properly, which also causes anger (they don't know where they...
