can someone explain new music to me?!

I am a classically trained pianist and am trying to get my degree in music, for the second time. My professors don't like me because I won't conform to the horrible noise they try to call music. It's awful and completely turns me off to wanting to be a musician. How can anyone live through this...

    prayer request for daughters

Hey everyone, Sorry I haven't been around lately, but I could seriously use some prayers for two of my daughters: One of my girls, who has cerebral palsy, has to have surgery next month because it was discovered that she is blind in one eye- it may be too late to correct but they will do...

    Kievan Synodal chant

Can anyone tell me about this? I'm in a conducting class and am conducting a marching band arrangement of Tschesnokoff's "Salvation is Created" (it's a really really horrible rendition, but I love the hymn). I did some research on it and discovered it was a Kievan Synodal chant, but I'm not sure...

    Beethoven's Waldstein Sonata

So after a ten-year hiatus from the piano, I have started back up again and am minoring in music. I am playing Beethoven's Waldstein this semester. I did a lot of work to build the strength in my hands back up. I almost have the first movement learned and am going to be working on the second...

    this is so awesome

My husband shared this with me on Facebook. I love it because I am so into Colonial history and I know I've been to his house when I lived in Virginia: http://orthodoxhistory.org/2011/07/11/atlas-excerpt-1-orthodoxy-in-colonial-virginia/

    Vacation Bible School?

I need some advice. My mom went behind my back and enrolled four out of five of my kids in VBS at her Protestant Church. It sounds nice only because four of my kids will be away from home for four hours everyday this week and that means I'll finally get some cleaning done around here. My mom...

    Prayer request

My best friend's brother was just shot in Afghanistan. He is a sniper in the Marines. He is a single dad of a four year-old son and my friend may have to take custody of him. My friend doesn't have any more info than that because she wouldn't let red cross tell her the details of what happened...

    My friend needs prayers

Hey everyone, could you keep my good friend, Shauna, in your prayers? She has a friend with two small children and is going through a nasty divorce, that just tried to commit suicide last night and is just barely hanging onto his life. My friend is so distraught because she became his sponsor...

    Orthodoxy in Spain?

I know it has to exist. My husband's company that he works for is opening an office in Valencia, Spain and my husband was the first to be asked if he wanted to move to Spain and of course, he said yes (and being that it's a coastal city, I said yes as well:D). As much as I love European history...

    I'm home

I finally got to leave the hospital last night. I thought I was never going to leave. I have to have home health care for a little while (just physical and occupational therapy). Our Presbytera was so kind to come over our house yesterday to watch the kids and brought them all happy meals while...

    Attending a non-Orthodox funeral

Ok, now that my father in-law died, my mother in-law is acting weird about me being at his funeral. She asked my husband if it was going to be a problem for me if the service is at an Episcopal church and if I would participate in singing the hymns and stand and sit when everyone else...

    My Father in-law passed away

My FIL just passed away this morning. It still hasn't sunk in, I've known him since I was 16. My husband and mother in-law seem to be coping much better than expected. I'm so grateful to the Hospice staff that took care of him, especially since that's where I worked just about a month ago.

    prayers needed please

Hey everyone, I could use some prayers. I'm in the hospital with seizure-like symptoms, but I had gillaume-barre syndrome five years ago, so it's probably just a severe flare-up. I had so many plans for today and was expecting to get stuck in this place, hopefully they'll let me out soon

    It's a start

Don't know what triggered it, but my husband has decided to come back to Church. I don't know if he will be have to be recatechumized or what. He still doesn't really believe, but considering what he has been putting himself through the past few years, this is a start. We are dropping the kids...

    exciting news

I don't know if you all remember telling you about my FIL, who was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic caner in December and was only given a 3% chance of a three year survival rate. Well, because his prognosis was so poor, he didn't want to go through chemo and radiation especially because it...

    How can I be strong?

My husband is now becoming a militant atheist and is starting to write all kinds of articles on how to be proud to be atheist and is trying real hard to flaunt it. I know he is just going through a phase because he loves Orthodoxy and said himself that he will most likely come back to the...

Thought I could do this on my own, but now I know I can't and need prayers

Sorry I've been MIA. My kids have all been sick for the last two weeks. They've had a viral infection and I just found out today that my oldest daughter, Julia, who's five, has an enlarged heart that they found on an xray that they took at the E.R., but didn't even bother telling us about it...
