    Christianity and the American Revolution

I don't understand. It is said that England refused to protect their colonies, but another complaint was that England was quartering troops among the colonies. What were the British troops there for? Wasn't the taxes levied on the colonies to fund this protection? Unfortunatly in America we...

    The Declaration of Independence

So are you saying that Paul did not recognise the Roman government as their governing authority? Did not Jesus acknowldge that Pilate's (a pagan government official who was about to have Him executed) authority came from God (John 19:11)? I beleive Christians should be obedient to their...

What is the Orthodox View of Revelation 20

(Rev 20:1-7 NASB) Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold of the dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he threw him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed...

The Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom

So, just how long is the Orthodox liturgy? The Sunday Roman Novus Ordo Mass takes about an hour. Daily Masses are a bit shorter (maybe 45 min.)

The Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom

Is the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom the liturgy that the Eastern Orthodox Churches use? I heard a Lutheran radio show talking about it at http://www.kfuo.org/mp3/Issues6/Issues_Etc_Mar_30b.mp3 They seemed to indicate todays liturgy of St. John Chrysostom was rather long due to accumulation...

    Books in the Bible

And how about the order of the books. I thought that I heard somewhere that the Orthodox have traditionaly placed the catholic epistles after the gospels with the Pauline epistles ordered after them. Is this true?

    Orthodox Understanding of the Eucharist.

Does Orthodoxy understand the Eucharist as a participation in the sacrifice of Christ? Do you consider that you are offering Christ's Body and Blood to the Father as a propitiatory sacrifice when partaking of the Eucharist in the Divine Liturgy? Thanks,

    What is likely to happen?

With the events that happened at the Episcopal General Conference, what is most likely to happen? I imagine that the larger Anglican Communion will ultimately ex-communicate the Episcopal Church from itself and establish a new Anglican Communion in the United States. The more liberal members...

Is it improper for women to serve at Mass?

Reference the following verses: 1 Cor. 14:33-35 For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints. Let your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak; but they are to be submissive, as the law also says. And if they want to...

    Question about Gene Robinson.

Has the Arch-Bishop of Cantebury made any statements to effect that what happened was wrong or that homosexual relationships are still sinful in the Anglican Church?

    Question about Gene Robinson.

Did he say this publicly? Does this mean that the ECUSA is now in schism with the Anglican Communion? Can you give me a link to a news article?

    Question about Gene Robinson.

Did the Arch-Bishop of Cantebury Rowan Williams approve or condemn the ordination of Gene Robinson? Thanks,

Divorce and Remarriage in the Orthodox Church

Here is Clement of Alexandria in the early 3rd Century. Is He considered an Eastern Father? Now that the Scripture counsels marriage, and allows no release from the union, is expressly contained in the law, "Thou shalt not put away thy wife, except for the cause of fornication;" and it regards...

Divorce and Remarriage in the Orthodox Church

I would also like to hear what the Early Church Fathers had to say on this issue. I will try to find out if I can get time (I have a new baby and he demands a lot of attention). If the Catholic Church has strayed on this doctrine, I am willing to listen.

Divorce and Remarriage in the Orthodox Church

Here are some of the verses that I have difficulty reconcilling with Orthodox teaching on this subject. Maybe someone could address them? Matthew 5:31-32 RSV "It was also said, `Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.' But I say to you that every one who divorces...

Divorce and Remarriage in the Orthodox Church

Good question, but they do happen. And remember not all wedings are done in Church with Pre-Cana counciling classes to discern if you are eligable to be married or not, which are not fool proof either (believe it or not some people do lie to priests to get married).

Divorce and Remarriage in the Orthodox Church

This is what annulments seek to determine. The Church recognises that some "marriages" are invalid in God's sight. Therefor someone who was civily divorced from one of these "marriages" would be free to marry because they were never truly married in God's eyes in the first place.

Divorce and Remarriage in the Orthodox Church

Do Orthodox accept all marriages as valid? Are Homosexual marriages valid? Are Insestuous marriages valid? Are shotgun weddings (Marriage under duress)valid? Or how about Las Vegas drive-in chapel Weddings preformed by Elvis impersonators as a result from an all night drinking binge?
