Republicans call on Clinton, Obama to reel in Soros-linked ‘professional’ anti-Trump protesters

There may be habitual troublemakers but my sense is that a lot of the protesters are protesting because they are scared about what the future holds. They may not be right to be scared but they are. The Christian response is to respond with reassurance and love - not to put stumbling blocks in...

    Do you believe...

So you think that the Christian G-d is not the only god? Or are the quotation marks significant?

    Do you believe...

Do muslims worship the same G-d as Christians? As far as I know there is only one G-d. Muslims might not worship G-d, but they can hardly worship a different G-d.

    The Book of Enoch

I promise an answer but I need to know what you mean by prophecy and what you mean by Scripture.

    The Book of Enoch

Oh no. It is 100% fact that Jude was quoting from the Book of Enoch. We have papyrus fragments from Qumran that prove it. I am assuming that the Sadducee he was addressing did not come from heaven and did not benefit from his privileged knowledge. Jesus said, "You do not know the Scriptures."...

Should we sell everything to be saved?

My feeling is that the command of Jesus is probably addressed not just to the rich young man but to anyone who searches too hard for a reason why it isn't addressed to them. And me as well. G-d have mercy on me, the sinner.

    The Book of Enoch

If one recognises the Epistle of Jude as Scripture, it seems churlish to balk at Enoch. By similar argument, though somewhat more tenuous, to what Scripture does Jesus refer here if not to Enoch.

Where is liberal Christian love for the intolerant?

But the third option is very difficult... "go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." I would like to. But it is not an easy thing He asks.

Where is liberal Christian love for the intolerant?

Yes. I think it's used as a useful shorthand for talking about what we think the Word of G-d is telling us to do. When I say, "I'm a liberal Christian" then what I really mean is that I think that liberal Christianity (whatever that might be!) is closer to what Jesus intended than conservative...

Where is liberal Christian love for the intolerant?

Yes! G-d is just and loving and merciful. He has told us - in Scripture - that He will seek out the lost sheep. He has told us that His sheep will know His voice. We should trust Him.

Where is liberal Christian love for the intolerant?

I think it comes down to whether we are sure of our own vision. I trust G-d to tell people if they are doing something He's likely to damn them for, certainly if they are sincere in giving themselves to Him. And maybe He has told them and they haven't listened. Or maybe they've professed to...

Where is liberal Christian love for the intolerant?

I think there's a difference between believing something to be a sin and being unrepentant of it, and not believing it to be a sin. Isn't Romans 14 really on the nail here? We can respect one another for obeying G-d speaking through our conscience - even if we think the other has misheard. And...

It's not like there's anyone else around here for him to love.

Which do you most regular read?

My most referred-to Tanakh is the JPS translation (with the Hebrew). If I'm doing some serious cross-referencing I'll work with the Masoretic and the LXX (usually online with the NRSV in parallel because neither my Hebrew nor Greek are good enough to do without that crutch).

Where is liberal Christian love for the intolerant?

Yes they do. Liberal Christianity has its own Pharisaic streak from time to time. And I've winced through more than a few sermons from well intentioned but unreflective Episcopalian priests. But I'm still a liberal Christian.

Does believing in evolution contradict Christianity?

"I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that G-d might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts. For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they...

Question regarding concept of Holy Trinity

Yes it does. The truth it seeks to explain does not change but the language in which the truth was once expressed does change. And, in the case of the Trinity, the language has changed so much that it now leads people more to error than truth. Many Christians claim to be Trinitarian but very few...

The Book of Enoch (for discussion)

No. I don't think Jude (or any other uncontroversial Scriptural author) quotes the other works you mention. He does reference the dispute over Moses' body, but that isn't actually in the Assumption of Moses. The point is not simply that Jude quotes the Book of Enoch - it is how he quotes it...

The Book of Enoch (for discussion)

True. But context matters. Paul does not cite Epimenides as an authority. The sense is "Even Cretans think Cretans are dishonest." It's not exactly an endorsement. What Scripture is Jesus referring to here?
