"We all say the same thing"

I was somewhat relieved to read from a Church father, St. Jacob Baradeus of all people, a quote provided by Prof. Charmley here: http://christianforums.com/showpost.php?p=41366979&postcount=4 Not only does this allude to Chalcedonians and non-Chalcedonians, but even Assyrian Christians. I...

Writings of St. Dioscorus the Confessor

I do not have access to a lot of his writings, but I certainly have seen RV Sellers and Fr. VC Samuel quote from him. When I get my hands on those books, I will provide more. Until then, here is a letter written by St. Dioscorus provided by Fr. Subdeacon Peter Theodore in another forum: FROM...

    Anselm and "Infinite Sin"

Did Anselm (and Aquinas) teach the idea of "infinite sin" or "unlimited atonement" for "unlimited sin" and if so, where? What's the reasoning? If not, then where did this "infinite sin" come from? Do Western "Apostolic" traditions condemn the concept of "infinite sin?" Thank you. God bless.

    Happy Belated St. Athanasius Day

A very dear friend of mine who is a devout Roman Catholic told me two days ago in their calendar was St. Athanasius' Day, knowing that he is one of my heroes. I told him, we Copts don't celebrate it until May 15th, but it gave me a reason to celebrate it twice  So, happy belated St...

    Infinite Sin et al

Many Orthodox have criticized St. Anselm for many things, but there are two things I have trouble with. The judicial concept overall to me is not necessarily a troubling point as many Orthodox make it, but I find two things that are troubling in St. Anselm's beliefs: 1. Infinite Sin 2...

    The VitD Cross

I believe that as diverse group of churches in One Orthodox Church, we should not be limited to just the Coptic Cross faith icon as representative of the OO Church. The OO Church is more than just Coptic. Are there any other crosses that are indicative of your local church that we can perhaps...

    Keep RobNJ in your prayers

One of the moderators of VitD (and TAW) is apparently in the hospital and recovering. This is probably late in mentioning, but if anything, we extend our prayers to RobNJ for a speedy and full recovery. God bless and keep you RobNJ. Mina

Are we of the same faith?

http://www.christianforums.com/t2871842 I've always viewed this as one of my favorite threads. I wish this would be a sticky for "thought-provoking Christian concepts." For us Orthodox, we know that Protestants and Catholics are not of the same doctrinal faith with us. Thus, we know they are...

Misc: Questioning the "witnessing" of those who call us Monophysites

This is for those posts that are in a the middle of a good discussion that I feel it is better that I do not want to interrupt. Perhaps, I'll place future ones here, if the situation has nothing to do with OO's in the first place. This goes out to ShiFuBill...

Hi, I couldn't send her a private message, but I'm sure she'd be pleased to read this. Thereselittleflower quoted in another forum: ... ... This is the first time I've ever heard you interpret the "co-redemtrx" the way you do. Usually, some Catholics I've talked to were pretty...

Iconography Question: St. John the Forerunner

Dear Michael, (or any iconagrapher) I was wondering if you know whether there's a "proper" and an "improper" icon of St. John the Forerunner. There's this one icon that causing some controversy in my own church, the icon of St. John depicted as one with angelic wings holding his own head...

St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church, Beckley, WV

A Greek Orthodox friend and I just went last Sunday to this beautiful Church in Beckley, WV. The priest was very kind, and we met all kinds of people from all races. Most of the church congregants are converts from Protestantism, which is an amazing witness. My associate dean is actually the...
