I could ethically justify doing research on non viable embryos, but not on embryos that still have a chance at life. The people that use IVF probably are not bound by the ethics that embryros are human life. I am, and I don't favor IVF that produces extra embryos. Although expensive, I would not allow more than one IVF at a time.
Only producing one embryo for implantation per IVF session would be a HUGE waste of money. The chances of that one embryo surving are very small. And the money wasted to repeatedly try this one embryo IVF could be put to much better use, perhaps education on preventing unwanted pregnancies or maybe to help pay for medical treatment of crack babies, etc.

All that aside, IVF DOES produce "extra" embryos. Embryos that WILL literally be thrown away.

What do you propose we do with those discarded embryos? Incinerate them as garbage or use them to produce stem cell lines that could very well save a life, improve a person's quality of life or reduce someone's pain?

This is why I don't support IVF

I've already answered this question.

If the embryos have expired, then I could justify doing research on them. This would be analagous to doing research on dead bodies.

Would you still be opposed to in vitro fertilization if there wasn't any extra embryos produced?

No, I am not opposed to IVF per se, but to producing extra ebryos
I understand that. That's why I think it'd be a good idea to use the extra embryos for embryonic stem cel research. That way they don't go to waste.
