They were added under the cover of darkness by the Chief Justice without consultation from any of the other 8 justices on the court.

Okay, that just decided my opinion on the whole matter. Clearly the 10 commandments don't need to be there, or they would have been there since the creation of the courthouse. This whole thing is a publicity stunt by Moore, and many in here are buying in hook, line, and sinker. How does it feel to be manipulated? (Not you, Ray :) ).

Roy Moore clearly has political ambitions. Expect him to play the martyr role for all its worth and then run for governor.

Something I heard on the radio yesterday - I agree wholeheartedly.

America has a new religious movement. Its Mecca is the Alabama Supreme Court, its sacred stone is a monument to the Ten Commandments, and its prophet is suspended Justice Roy Moore:

“I have acknowledged God as the moral foundation of our law. It is my duty. Should I hold back my opinions for fear of giving offense? I should consider myself guilty of treason, and of an act of disloyalty the majesty of heaven.”

His followers are convinced that America has suppressed God.

"We see the first amendment to protect religious liberty, not crush religious liberty… we're gonna go by what the constitution says."

I thought about that - the idea that God has been suppressed in America, as I flipped across the TV channels and found the Christian Broadcasting Network. The Trinity Broadcasting Network. The Eternal Word Television Network.

I thought about it as I heard the church bells, which ring in our neighborhood at noon and 6:00 every day.

I remembered that a few weeks ago two Mormon missionaries came to at the door; and that just last Sunday a young man rang the bell and handed me a postcard signed - Jews For Jesus.

I recalled that most of us get Sunday off. That Christmas is a holiday no matter when it falls, that our years are counted beginning at Christ’s birth. That the House and Senate start with a prayer. That "In God We Trust" is on our money and engraved in the Chamber of the House of Representatives.

How exactly is God suppressed in America?

And as for the Ten Commandments, I think we know them. We may not always obey them, but we know them.

Don't Kill, Don't Steal. Don't swear. Don't sleep around. Obey your parents. Remember that it's not you the world revolves around. Take at least one day off a week. Hands off the neighbor's ox. And finally, don't lie, don't worship carved rocks.

My opinion? It is just a rock. It is a symbol of a deeper meaning which decent people all agree are good rules to live by. Therefore, if the rock is removed, the courthouse will not suddenly be overrun by immorality. The ten commandments still exist - they are much bigger than a small statue in Alabama.

In talking about his topic with a friend of mine, he brought up a point that had me scratching my head.

If the commandments were removed from the court house, shouldn't the bible then be removed from the court room as well?!

I've testified in court twice, as an expert witness. Neither time was a bible produced. The court clerk just asked me to raise my right hand and swear that the testimony I was about to give was the truth, the whole truth, etc. And the clerk didn't finish the oath with "so help me God." But that's the procedure here in St. Louis--other jurisdictions may do it differently.

That's interesting to know, thanks.

Do not commit adultery
Do not steal
Do not give false evidence against your neighbor
Honor your father and mother

there seems to be alot of Hippocrates in the supreme court i mean they do have a freeze of Moshe/ Moses holding the Ten Comandments inside the court room , i guess that they will be sand blasting that off the wall soon and its the same ppl all time trying to remove G-d from our country THE ACLU AND THE ATHIESTS even though there is proof that our country was founded on judeao/ christian values not on athiest/ muslim values

They can move the Ten Comandments out of view, but they can't move it out of our hearts,''

Actually - Most Courts did away with using a Bible - and some ask if the person wishes to use one - the Supreme Court ruled on that several years ago.. as well as the "SO Help You God!" both were taken out at the same time..

Whats really interesting is why even have a person raise their hands.. who are they swearing the truth to? but thats another issue.

there seems to be alot of Hippocrates in the supreme court

these are quite annoying if you don't believe them:

3. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

4. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

5. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

6. And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

7. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain: for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

Incidentally, Hippocrates died about 2400 years ago. perhaps you mean hypocrites.

actually gestures like this have a very long history indeed, and are often to do with warfare, and showing that your weapon hand is empty. in essence, they are part of tradition and have lost their fundamental reason.

Or why would you need the bible anyway? If you believe the bible, you shouldn't be lying whether you swear on it or not.

They can move the Ten Comandments out of view, but they can't move it out of our hearts,''

You'll want to stop seeing the world in an "us versus them" view. The people who wanted the ten commandments plaque removed did so because, in this country, we seperate church and state. The secular legal system is no place for religious relics. It would be the same if a Qur'an statue was in place, or a statue of Shiva. It's religion and has no place in the secular legal system.

Personally I'm not offended by the Ten Commandments, but as long as I don't live in Iran I prefer not to have my laws distorted with religion. Judge Moore broke the law. If you don't like it, change the law, don't target those who upheld it. I have a feeling that in such a case, if an Islamic statue was in the court house you would be in a rage. Consider the views of others not involved in your religion.

Atheists and Muslims...you can't really be more seperate then that. ^_^ Muslims have a legal system you might enjoy...completely based on religion. It's called Shariah. Few would accept a secular legal system. Islam had little place in the foundation of the U.S. except for the fact that many slaves brought here by Christians were Muslim. However, this country has never, ever been a complete theocracy nor has it ever been home only to Jews or Christians. Check with your local native American tribe.

If you strongly believe in religion, that;s great, but as a whole this country is not Christian and you are not legally able to push religion on the public. By the way...thee ACLU fights for your rights as a Christian. I wouldn't bash my allies, if I were you. ;)

The 1792 Treaty of Tripoli states very clearly, "The United States is not founded upon the Christian religion"

So much for the "foundation of our country" theory.

next?
