Israelis must live apart from Arab spouses

The Isr. Parliament passed a measure that would require Pal. who marry Israelis to live separate lives or move out of Isr.! This law would prevent Pal. from the West Bank who marry Arab citizens of Israel(there are many) from obtaining residency permits in Israel.
When these sorts of laws were the norm in South Africa not long ago, the world recoiled at what we called APARTHEID. Bishop Desmond Tutu, a leading figure in the battle against apartheid in S. Africa, after returning from a trip to Isr. had this to say:
"[What I saw] reminded me so much of what happened to us black people in S. Africa. I have seen the humiliation of the Pal. at checkpts and roadblocks, suffering like us when young white police officers prevented us from moving about...I thot of the desire of Isr. for security. But what of the Pal. who have lost their land and homes.
My heart aches. I say why are our memories so short? Have our Jewish sisters and bros forgotten their humiliation? Have they forgotten the collective punishment, the home demolitions, in their own history so soon...Isr. will never get true security and safety thru oppressing another people...We condemn the violence of suicide bombers, and we condemn the corruption of young minds taught hatred, but we also condemn the violence of military incursions in the occupied lands, and the inhumanity that won't let ambulances reach the injured."
God bless, Al

All this goes against everything we as Americans supposedly stand for... We have hardened our hearts to the plight of the Palistineans, we as a nation should be ashamed. The Israeli is no better than the Palistinean, the Palistinean has no less right to defend himself, his home and his family than any Israeli. We have participated in this oppression and blood is on our hands.

Hi Revolutio: like Cougar said, explain your pt of view.
To Extirpated Wildlife: thanx for your participation and it's not negative. The secular nation of Israel was established by socialist Israelis from Europe in 1948. While the "religious right" has much more influence the PRESENT NATION OF ISRAEL is not the Old Covenant people of God.
1. God expelled His people from the land (thru the invasions of Assyria and Babylon) for breaking the covenant.
2. There will be a restoration of Israel in the land IN FAITH AND REPENTANCE. Cf.Zechariah 10:6-8;notice in Zech.2:10-11 that Gentiles are included. Cf. also Ezek.36:24-29;37:21-28.
3. The people of God have been reconstituted so as to include Jew and Gentile together as ONE:
Eph.3:6,"Through the Gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Isr., members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus". Gal.3:29, "If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs acc. to the promise."
How all of this fits together with the promises of God to Isr. regarding the land and Jews and Gentiles as one is beyond me. Perhaps your Mess. Jewish friends have some ideas. God bless, Al

What is life like under Israeli apartheid?
1. More than 3 million Pal. in the W. Bank and Gaza live under closures. Nearly every road to a village is cut by barriers manned by soldiers or closed by blocks of concrete and trenches. A trip of several kilometre can take several hrs. Palestinians are barred from many primary rds.
2. Denial of freedom of movement for the Pal. people in the Occupied territories has affected their ability to get to work, the children to travel to their schools, the abililty to get health care as well as their ability to conduct business, travel and maintain family contacts.
3. More than 600 Pal. are under "administrative detention", mostly in tents at the detention centers. Many of them were arbitrarily detained over a period of mos--one can barely hope that basic rights of representation by an atty, evidence required for indictment, etc. will not be buried under the mounds of Israeli ill-will and Holocaust-like attitudes.
4. The Isr. military has continued to destroy or damage Pal. homes and property without absolute military necessity. For example, in June of 2002 in Jenin, the Isr. demolished a home on top of a family w. 5 children, killing a 12 yr old boy.
If we believe in "the land of the free and the home of the brave", why do we keep bankrolling a country that has turned Palestine into the land of the slaves and the home of the despairing. God bless, Al
