This is a news item which appeared on AiG

"It’s over. Teacher Rodney LeVake’s appeal to the US Supreme Court has ended, with the Justices refusing to hear his case.

As we reported earlier LeVake is a Christian biology teacher in Minnesota whose ‘crime’ was simply to expose his students to some of the scientific flaws in evolution. He did not even teach creation but merely brought up problems with evolution. His punishment was removal from his high-school biology classroom (to teach the ‘safer’ subject of general science).

Contrary to some media reports, LeVake never taught creationism in his biology classes. He merely wanted his students to know that evolution is not a fact.

LeVake filed suit against Faribault High School (near Minneapolis) back in 1998, claiming that the school district had violated his freedom of speech and freedom of religion. Incredibly, the district court ruled that the school could forbid LeVake’s criticism of evolutionary ideas even "though [his arguments] may be scientifically meritorious." (See Muzzled in Minnesota!)

LeVake then went to the US Supreme Court, but on Monday, 7 January 2002, the Court refused to hear the case. Sadly, the US Supreme Court appears to be reaffirming its pattern of hostility toward the teaching of Christianity. (See a previous ruling in US Supreme Court's evolution ruling reveals hostility toward Christianity.)

AiG applauds the courageous efforts of instructors like LeVake, who are fighting to protect the freedom of teachers to present students with the scientific evidence against Darwinian evolution, including, as LeVake told Time, ‘the amazing lack of transitional forms in the fossil record.’ What could be more fair to students?

In a society that increasingly rejects the authority of Scripture and its history in Genesis, we should not be surprised at how America’s court system and public schools are increasingly intolerant of anything that may even hint of Christian beliefs. This shows how important it is that AiG present information that exposes the bankruptcy of evolution that student’s can’t hear in their public school classes."

A chinese person ounce said "I don't get it, In china were allowed to criticize evolution but not the government. In america your allowed to criticize the government but not evolution." Maybe there is an element of truth in this.

A high school science class has a specific curriculum, and is generally meant to impart knowledge which is already mainstream.

On top of that, the majority of 'errors' in evolutionary theory are not at all errors, and teaching these to students is in effect teaching them falsehoods stemming from religious belief.

The decision of the District Court was admirable and correct.

The supreme court appears to be split between pagans on one side and heathens (secular humanists) on the other side. Some claimed to have christian beliefs when there were being appointed, but no one there now claims to be a christian that I have heard of. Time and again, they side with the aclu. Every step of the way patting themselves on the back and telling each other how wonderful they are and bringing in a fresh new class of law students to be impressed with what mighty people they are.

Soon, Jesus will return and the government will rest upon Him. Something we can all look forward to. Like Abraham, who looked for a city who's maker and founder was God, and not a city built upon man's beliefs.

Judges 17:6 In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.

Deut. 12:8
You shall not at all do as we are doing here today--every man doing whatever is right in his own eyes--

"If Darwin's theory was about people having kids, then why would it be such a big deal?"

LOL yeah unless the kids had wings and were a new species. Boy, can't even question evolution in fear that you might lose you job. I took science, I remember evolution being taught. I know how many errors an how flawed it is (had to do my own research and not rely on bias materials we were forced to swallow). The thing is a relgion with many scientists and teachers of science. It's their life and they freak out at anyone that doubts them or questions them at all.

Actually, people having kids is a good example of natural selection, which is one important mechanism in evolution. As for why it's a big deal to some people, I'm honestly not sure. They often seem to feel that it kills their God, but many people of faith accept evolution, so I can't really say for sure.

If you're a science teacher and question electromagnetics or Newton's laws in the same fashion that creationists "question" evolution, you'll lose your job just as fast.

Scienctific theories (evolution, universal gravitation, etc.) and religions (Christianity, Islam, etc.) are fundamentally different things. The former are explanatory/predicative frameworks while the latter are institutions used to govern how people worship and make moral decisions. Science is based on honest questioning and testing, but creationists rarely do either with regards to evolution.

HAHA....thanks, project 86, that made me laugh. I got this great mental image of little babies flying around, "Look! They evolved!"

As for why it's a big deal to some people, I'm honestly not sure. They often seem to feel that it kills their God, but many people of faith accept evolution, so I can't really say for sure.

I was one of those, for a while. But I finally reasearched it and decided, hey, that doesn't work at all!

Science is based on honest questioning and testing,

Is it?

but creationists rarely do either with regards to evolution.

They don't?
