Joel 1:6, 2:2-10 and Revelation 9:2-10

If you read both Joel 1:6, 2:2-9, and Revelation 9:2-10, you will see that they both mention something about locusts.

Joel 1:6
"For a nation is come upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion."

Joel 2:2-9
"A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any after it, even to the years of many generations."

"A fire devoureth before them: and behind them a flame burneth: the land is
as the Garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness;
yea, and nothing shall escape them."

"The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen, so shall they run."

"Like the noise of chariots on the tops of mountains shall they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array."

"Before their face the people shall be much pained: all faces shall gather black-
ness."

"They shall run like mighty men; they shall climb the wall like men of war; and
they shall march every one of his ways, and they shall not break their ranks."

"Neither shall one thrust another; they shall walk every one on his path: and when they fall upon the sword, they shall not be wounded."

"They shall run to and fro in the city; they shall run upon the wall, they shall climb up upon the houses; they shall enter at the windows like a thief."

Now, take a look at Revelation 9:3-10

Revelation 9:2-10
"And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit."

"And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth; unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power."

"And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God
in their foreheads."

"And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months; and their torment was as torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man."

" And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them."

"And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns of gold, and their faces
were as faces of men."

"And they had hair as hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions."

"And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron: and the sound of their wings was as the sounds of chariots of many horses running to
battle."

"And they had tails like unto scorpions; and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months."

Now you see many comparisons. There is a chance that these are the same
locusts in Joel, but, there are other possibilities.

As you can see, "teeth as lions" is mentioned in both, but Joel is singular " teeth as a lion", which doesn't change anything. When they arrive, you can
see in both passages that the skis get darkened. Both passages have the
"appearance of horses" in them. In both passages, it describes that when they run, it sounds as of chariots. Joel says " noise of chariots ", and Revelation says " sounds of chariots."

I believe that both passages describe the same locusts.

Do you think so as well?

God bless you brothers and sisters.

Interesting thread Servant4Christ .
Something a little different from the usual "Tribulation" or "Rapture" type threads.

I've "also" noticed the similarity between Joel and revelation concerning these locusts.

I'm not positive about this but I have heard that a locusts life span is about 5 months , kinda makes you think doesn't it.

Exodus 10:12-15
And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up upon the land of Egypt, and eat every herb of the land, even all that the hail hath left. 13 And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and the LORD brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts. 14 And the locusts went up over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the coasts of Egypt: very grievous were they; before them there were no such locusts as they, NEITHER AFTER THEM SHALL BE SUCH.

Thnaks, but I guess I was hoping for some thoughts on that scripture.

Looks to me like the bible teaches here that the plague of Locusts God brought upon Egypt through Moses, wasthe worst plague of locusts that ever was or EVER SHALL BE.

If that is true, How could there be any future, worse plague of locusts?

Interesting connection, Servant4Christ.

Certainly Joel refers to last day events as Revelation. However, do both references to locust refer to the same thing?

By the way Parousia70 you make a good point which forwards my position that the Revelation locusts are, in reality, demons. It is a reference to an attack by hordes of demonic creatures.

The point that these are not natural locust is made clear by the saying: "they should not hurt trees or any green thing.." and by the description of their appearance.

However, I see Joel differently based on Joel's own words - if you are interested...

Interesting.
So you would argue that the Locusts in Revelation are not to be taken Literally, but instead should be understood symbolicly.

With that I would agree. While I may differ with you on what the symbol represents, I stand beside you in your affirmation of the symbol itself.

God's army is a bunch of demons? I doubt that.
I believe they are either locusts, or they are God's
heavenly angels (possibly seraphim?)

I think you missed my point altogether. I was implying that the Revelation scriptures of locusts are NOT referring to the same thing as Joel's prophecy BECAUSE Joel's prophecy specifically calls these "a great people, and strong.." and calls them "his (the Lord's) army".

The Revelation locusts are obviously an evil army, both from their source and in their intention. They came from 'the bottomless pit" and they had a king over them "named Apollyon".

It ought to obvious what the locusts of Revelation are.

From the beginning of Chap. 9 we see the source: "I saw a star fall from heaven to the earth" - The usual and obvious reference to a fallen angel.

Also note their king: "And they had a king over them which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name is Abaddon, but in Greek hath his name Apollyon".

This is definitely not a reference to "the Lord's army" as in Joel.

Yes it does. But, these locusts, are they to be taken literally, or symbolically. These creatures
sound horrifying. Locusts? They sound more like
some strange new animal .

A few years back I came across a story in TIME magazine about robotic bugs , after reading your first post I did a search on the internet and have a look what I found .

http://www.spacedaily.com/news/mars-robot-02b.html

There's lots more info on these critters , just put "Robotic bugs" into a seach engine and go for it.

I always wondered about Revelation 9...

And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.
4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.
5 And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man.
6 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.
7 And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men.
8 And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions.
9 And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle.
10 And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months.
11 And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.

Could it be?
