Jasmine-
if it is not a word for word bible (or at least trying hard to be a word for word bible as the Reina Valera then you are reading a book that has the understanding of the person who wrote it.
I am suspect to say that el vercion Dio- habla hoy is not a, and not trying to be a, word for word version of bible.

For Spanish people- the Reina Valera is the authoritive version to study- though it is not that good- it does its best.
I have yet to find any other biblias castellano that are any where near faithful to the greek and hebrew as the Reina-Valera is trying hard to be.

Antonio

I am using the Dios Habla Hoy version it says in Fp 3:5 "En cuanto a la interpretación de la ley judía,fui delpartido fariseo"
Oh ok...the verse I quoted above was from Hechos 23:6

In the Reina-Valera, Fp 3:5 says:
circuncidado al octavo día, del linaje de Israel, de la tribu de Benjamin, hebreo de hebreos, en cuanto a la ley, fariseo.

If you look at D-os Habla Hoy, Hechos 23:6, it says:
"Hermanos, yo soy fariseo, de la familia de fariseos; y se me está juzgando porque creo en la resurrección de los muertos."

In the NVI, for Fp 3:5, it says:
"...de la tribu de Benjamín, hebreo de pura cepa, en cuanto a la interpretación de la ley, fariseo."

In this same version (NVI), Hechos 23:6 says:
"Hermanos, yo soy fariseo de pura cepa. Me están juzgando porque he puesto mi esperanza en la resurrección de los muertos."

Now hold on one sec... you're excluding the context buddy...
Here's the context:
rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh, 4 though I also might have confidence in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he may have confidence in the flesh, I more so: 5 circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the Hebrews; concerning the law, a Pharisee; 6 concerning zeal, persecuting the church; concerning the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.
7 But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. 8 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ.

He's not saying its meaningless. In fact, he gives value to these things, but in comparison it fades to black...

*sigh*

I hate it when people extract a verse out of its context. Many will use these "out of context" passages to justify their own beliefs, which... frankly is just wrong. Not that you're necessarily doing this Daniel, but a brotha's gotta keep a brotha in check ;)
Hi Simchat,

Thanks for the context reminder. It is quite easy to fall into the proof-texting camp if you exclude context. Yes, you are correct--it was a comparative. It's like Y'Shua's statement about hating your family to follow him. He certainly didn't mean to literally hate them, but rather in comparison to the love that you have for him, it would be hate.

Sorry for the misquoting! :sorry:

In the Messiah,

Daniel
