Here are a few of my favorite Catholic quotes:

"True followers of Christ; Be prepared to have a world make jokes at your expense. You can hardly expect a world to be more revert to you than to Our Lord. When it does make fun of your faith, its practices, abstinences, and rituals - then you are moving to a closer identity with Him Who gave us our faith. Under scorn Our Lord 'answered nothing'. The world gets amusement from a Christian who fails to be Chrisitan, but none from his respectful silence." - Archbishop Fulton Sheen

"The greatest love story of all time is contained in a tiny white host"
- Archbishop Fulton Sheen

"Whenever anything disagreeable or displeasing happens to you, remember Christ crucified and be silent" - St. John of the Cross

"He longs to be in you. He wants His breath to be your breath, His heart to be in your heart, and His soul in your soul" - St. John Eudes

"Love: Jesus came to pay a debt He didn't owe, because we owed a debt we couldn't pay"

What are yours?

"A day will come when the civilized world will deny its God, when the Church will doubt as Peter doubted. She will be tempted to believe that man has become God, that His Son is merely a symbol, a philosophy held by so many others, and in the churches Christians will search in vain for the red lamp where God awaits them, like Magdalen weeping before the empty tomb, "Where have they taken Him?"

- Pope Pius XII

Do most Catholic Churches today still have a red light?

Here in Los Angeles, there is no red light visible in the main churches. However, in a small separate chapel where the Tabernacle is kept, you will see the red light. Often this "adoration" chapel is behind the altar of the main church, therefore, you cannot find the red lamp, unless you actually walk over there. So, it's not really visible.

Is this the reference that Pope Pius XII prophesized?

"America needs no words from me to see how your decision in Roe v. Wade has deformed a great nation. The so-called right to abortion has pitted mothers against their children and women against men. It has portrayed the greatest of gifts--a child--as a competitor, an intrusion, and an inconvenience."

Great Thread!!! And yes chanterhanson, all Catholic churches still (should) have a red candle lit to show Christ in the Blessed Sacrament.

Quotes:

"Do not be afraid to love our Blessed Mother too much. You can never hope to love her as much as Jesus did." - St. Maximillian Kolbe

"Catholics have been accused of trying to hide the bible. This is of course untrue. However, if it were true, it would pale in comparison to the protestant reformation which successfully hid everything else!" - GK Chersterton

"We are compelled to concede to the Papists [catholics] that they have the Word of God, that we received it from them, and that without them we should have no knowledge of it at all." ~ Martin Luther

"Anybody can be Pope; the proof of this is that I have become one." Pope John XXIII
"It often happens that I wake up at night and begin to think about a serious problem and decide I must tell the Pope about it. Then I wake up completely and remember that I am the Pope." - Pope John XXIII

"May God have mercy on you for what you have done." - Pope John Paul I upon his election as sovereign pontiff.

"Do not let that hope die! Stake your lives on it! We are not the sum of our weaknesses and failures. We are the sum of the Father's love and our real capacity to become the image of his son."
-Pope John Paul II @ WYD 2002

I'll post some more later

Dearest Pax:

Where did you get your signature? Where and when did JP II quote that true saying.

That's been bugging me for a while. I can't remember where I got it... I knew I should have written it down somewhere. If I remember I'll tell you.

It's called a "Sanctuary Lamp" and it is kept wherever the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist is.

That's exactly where the Sanctuary Lamp should be kept.

"We should speak, then, as the Holy Spirit gives us the gift of speech. Our humble and sincere request to the Spirit for ourselves should be that we may bring the day of Pentecost to fulfillment, insofar as he infuses us with his grace, by using our bodily senses in a perfect manner by keeping the commandments. Likewise we shall request that we may be filled with a keen sense of sorrow and with fiery tongues for confessing the faith so our deserved reward may be to stand in the blazing splendor of the saints and to look upon the triune God."
- Saint Anthony of Padua

"The poor people are very great people. They can teach us so many beautiful things. The other day one of them came to thank me and said: 'You pople who have vowed chastity, you are the best people to teach us family planning. Because it is nothing more than self-control out of love for each other.' And I think he said a beautiful sentence. And these are people who maybe have nothing to eat, maybe they have not a home where to live, but they are great people. The poor are very wonderful people."

"It's a poverty to decide that a child must die so you may live as you wish."
- Mother Teresa of Calcutta

"A dead thing can go with the stream, but only a living thing can go against it."

"These are the days when the Christian is expected to praise every creed except his own."
- G. K. Chesterton

"The vow of celibacy is a matter of keeping one's word to Christ and the Church. a duty and a proof of the priest's inner maturity; it is the expression of his personal dignity."

"A nation that kills its own children is a nation without hope."
- Pope John Paul II

"Show me thy faith without works; and I will show thee, by works, my faith. Thou believest that there is one God. Thou dost well: the devils also believe and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?"
