I was Catholic all my life, but?

but I’ll tell you the truth --I knew practically nothing about God’s word until I started a rigorous study and research in February of 1997 after having an intensely powerful, strenuous encounter -mainly with the good Lord (GOD) our savior. but His Host (or large portion of it) was there as well.

Yes,
I’ll tell you there was a vast Army of Heaven
overhead, day and night for a few days.

And believe it or not -part of the 20 hour+ examine, struggle, cleansing, anointing, equipping and empowering initiation involved certain members of the Holy Host taking turn filing to observe me –almost like family members coming over to observe a new born. As for me, I still had my shield and weapon at the ready like a child.

I knew practically nothing about God’s word but I did know enough to know that when this sort of thing occurs it’s a very smart idea to check it out in Bible to see if it fits.

Besides knowing this simple fact –I had a burning desire to find the truth to what happened to me that day and on other subsequent occasions –why?

One last thing -while I was in the Spirit
and carried by Angels on May 5-6, 1984
I did have a powerful encounter with John the Baptist (seen as a living-bush in the wilderness) -but that was not as life-changing

It was the good Lord --Christ Jesus left me with far more Questions than answers

God Bless

The Lord God sought him a man after his own heart
and God knows what you are thinking right now

And -You just told on yourself. ;)

This testimony was a true account
and if you chose to get stupid about it,
shame on you

Satan will come in –if you let him

Hopefully a remnant got the message?

The Good Lord is preparing his elect to stand during great tribulation

Don't worry, we all have some loonies around us. You should see some of the crazy self-appointed "orthodox" bishops. There is one in Florida who claims to be a charimatic Orthodox Bishop, but he is completely unconnected with any Orthodox Jurisdiction. Another mixes hinduism/buddism/ and other isms with Orthodox ideas.

What's a Franciscan Catholic?
I consider myself to be "Franciscan Catholic" in a way. The beloved Poverello once said, "Preach the Gospel at all times, and when necessary use words."

This is what I try to do, and maybe the OP had that saying in mind when he chose his words.

God Bless and Pax et Bonum!

You think that's looney? We have a guy in Montana (a state in the northern U.S.) claiming he's REALLY the Pope! Meet Pope Pius XIII! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucian_Pulvermacher

My guess is that he follows the examples of St. Francis of Assissi. The Franciscan monk started the monastic order. Are protestants that much out of the loop of Church history that we wouldn't know this?
St. Francis was indeed a monastic, but he did not start the monastic order... that would be St. Antony, this is common to Catholics and Orthodox.

You could do your own google search, but having done one myself I'd say this might tell you all you need to know for now http://www.scourmont.be/studium/bresard/

It seems there may have been some earlier non-Christian forms of monasticism, but it confirms what orthodoxyusa said,
The history of monasticism begins then with Antony, for he was the first monk about whom anything was written.

Let me ask you this. Since I am not up on who started what monastic order, why did St. Antony name the order after St. Francis? or did he?

Scott, St Anthony did not found the order of St Francis, St Francis founded the order that bears his name.

St Anthony was much earlier and one of the Desert Fathers. He seems to be the first Christian known to be a monk. I'm not sure he started a monastic order, but maybe he started a trend.

There was a St Anthony of Padua who lived around the time of St Francis, but he was someone quite different.

If you want to know more and google can't answer all your questions, perhaps you should start a new thread.:)

Hey Scott,

I'll find the story of St. Antony and send it to you... he didn't mean to start anything, at least not at first... but so many people followed what he did in his own lifetime that he organized it...

He was a Roman solider (didn't want to be), and when he heard the Gospel he gave up all that he had and went into the desert...

Forgive me...:liturgy:
