Do you really have cows or do you just call yourself a cowgirl?

What a small world! I used to be in 4-H, too, many moons ago in Hawaii. I didn't raise any livestock, but had a good time with the other activities. How long have you raised horses? What breed do you raise?
4-H is a good club for youth.

I don't know much about horses. I do not even know any happy stories, just a sad one. I had a friend once who took care of million dollar horses. She said one of them was giving her a hard time, so she smacked it in the head with a 2 by 4. I said: "You hit a million dollar horse"? and she said: "Yep". I did not hang around with her much after that. The Bible says a good man treats his animals with love and takes good care of them. Even you can tell a good shephard because his sheep are well cared for and healthy. Evil and wicked people abuse animals.

Still, it sounds like a lot of work to me

I understand about not selling your horses. They are loved as part of the family I would imagine, and I wouldn't sell them, either.

If your avatar is an American Bashkir Curlies, he's a beaut! The community where I live has lots of rolling hills, and the city next to us has a section zoned for equestrian estates (you'd never know that, though). Those that own horses have a great time riding all over the hillside. The kids enjoy them the most.

I got bucked off a horse once while riding through the Smokey Mountains. I broke three ribs and bruised a kidney. But I won't hold it against the horse. The horse behind it nipped it on the behind.
