A guy came to our church as a gueast speaker and said that he gets the daily newspaper and prays about each of the stories.
I liked the idea , so I started doing it too.Although, not every single day.I also started checking out magazines in the store.
Anyone else do this? any other ideas on "methods' for praying.

My goodness you must have a busy prayer time. I live on a main road and whenever the ambulence goes by I try to pray for the victims. When it is a fire truck I pray for the rescuers as well.

I have a situation right now where I can spend a lot of time in prayer. It is not stressful at all because I put on worship music and I just slowly work my way through during worship time.Sometimes I go off on tangents for a while but then I usually come back to the next news story after a while.

Many years ago, I learned about "arrow" prayers. These are prayers you say when you're "on the run." In other words, sending quick prayers and talking to God when you're out and about. Many times I'm in my car driving somewhere and I'll think of someone whom I'd like to say a little prayer. God still hears us whether we're in a closet with the door closed talking to Him, or outside somewhere carrying on our daily business. I think "arrow" prayers are neat.

I don't see how anyone could spend the time nesessary to seriously pray on every article in the news paper. I use up an hour without trying. Perhaps, he is only talking about the front page? Otherwise, just going through naming all the articles, alone, would take quite some time.

You made me chuckle with this comment. I'm sure it is ok if I don't get to all the articles. I have no idea how much time he spends or how meticulus he is. Except that he did talk about doing more than a five minute perusal. It is just an idea that I liked and have been doing.

I talk to God like I would talk to a friend....I tell Him all about what's going on in my life, I talk over the things that are confusing me or giving me trouble, and I thank HIm for everything He's given me.
Sometimes, I feel like I need a little boost to get me back on track. So, I started doing something recently that I call "praise nights." I read through the Psalms, and pick out the ones that REALLY praise God, as opposed to the ones that deal with asking God for help in affliction. I read them out loud to Him, as if I were praying those words. I sing bits and pieces of the praise songs I learned during my years in church youth groups, and I just focus on Him. I use very few of my own words during this time, because that tends to make me focus on myself more. Praise nights are al labout God! I always feel really renewed and focused on what's important after a praise night. I had one last night, as a matter of fact!

I have a prayer notebook where I keep the list of people and things I want to pray about. When the prayers are answered I add the date they were answered. It is a great way to see how God hears you and answers you.

As far as praying for every article in a newspaper, my take on it is that you don't need to pray in detail for every article. God knows what you are going to say before you say it. I would read the paper and take note of the articles and the people who you want to pray for. Later when you pray about these people simply ask God to help the people you read about. God knows who you are talking about and He knows what their needs are.

"...for your Father knows what you need before you ask him." Matthew 6:8

Thanks. I'm going to take this suggestion for praying for news.
