• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

As far as I knew, the only sin thats not forgiven is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. It does not say anywhere in the Bible that suicide is an automatic death sentence to hell. And as afr as others who like to say things like "well if youre really saved why would you do that?" Why not? If youre really saved then why smoke, or commit adultery, or swear, drink alcohol etc. One sin is no greater than the other, we all sin, thats why we need a savior. Suicide is no better or worse of a sin than hating someone, Jesus says to hate someone is just as bad as killing them, so the majority of us are murderers then. I dont recommend suicide as a way to solve your problems, Im not saying that its a good thing to do, but to judge people who must be at their lowest with comments about their salvation is probably not helpful. God loves even the depressed.

There is only one sin that Jesus cannot forgive. That is totally rejecting Christ your entire life and dying in your sins. If one were to commit suicide as a Christian I believe they would be in heaven. Although that person should have known that Christ is always with them, would never leave them, and not allow anything to happen to them that they were unable to bear.

Why would a Christian wanna commit suicide and yes u do go to hell because you are destroying God's temple.

Man's days are determined; you [O God] have decreed the number of his months and have set limits he cannot exceed" (Job 14:5)

All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be" (Psalm 139:16)
Moreover, suicide goes against the commandments of God. In fact, the sixth commandment tells us, "You shall not murder" (Exodus 20:13). This command is based on the sanctity of human life. We must remember that man was created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26).

It is important to understand that the command, "You shall not murder," has no direct object. That is, it doesn't say, "You shall not murder someone else," or "You shall not murder your fellow man." It simply says, "You shall not murder." The prohibition thus includes not just the murder of one's fellow man but even the murder of oneself. While suicide is certainly not the "unforgivable sin," we must never forget that God prohibits murder of any kind.

People commit suicide when they can no longer handle the pain life brings. Your brain has coping resources for pain, but when they are out weighed by the pain then poeple kill themselves. It annoys me when people condemn people to hell for something they don't understand.

Well even if suicide is murder you will still go to heaven because ALL of your sins have been forgiven.

I do, it does nothing, I still want to kill myself sometimes.

Jesus proclaimed "Ye who endures all trails and triublations shall be saved" hang in there and kepe faith in the Lord and when you do enter the Gates of Heaven you'll look back and say it was all worth it. Tell you parents tell you friends tell your a counseler.
Plus if you don't know if your going to hell or heaven, you don't wanna take that risk of knowing...IT COULD BE HELL IF YOU DO! think about it you need to talk to a priest about it. KEEP ON PRAYING!

Why in the name of Christ are u guys talking about atheism?! i thought this was a christian forum?

do you have family?

before you decide to commit suicide think of your family, and ask yourself how they plan to go on in your absence think about little siblings if you have any who look up to you think of there loss and you will realize that not only will you be taking the selfish way out but you will be stealing from them as well, you will be stealing a life from them that they love and care for.

Selfish? No. You obviously haven't been there. You kind works and faith are iportant and helpful though. Thanks.

For those who havent experienced..It is not like the person has physical pain and saying "ouch, too much, bye bye." They are feeling emotional pain which is ten times worse. It effects your thinking and outlook totally. Sure its the depression talking, but it is extremely painful nonetheless. I will never not pray though. Prayer is what God asks us to do. For those of you that feel this bad, are you taking any meds to help you out of it? There is no choice, you MUST at least try!

I voted hell cos i guess its almost cheatin in Hebrews 12 1-12 it says'let u run the race and never give up' so you giving up and thinking you are going to heaven is like trying to get to that reward in heaven by illegtimate means.God is supposed to choose when we've ran our race, and our ready to join him.Im no stranger to depression,I get so low but im overcoming and yes ive felt suicidal but since becoming a christian ive realised how selfish it is...how wonderful when 'i' die and let Christ live in me,lets put to death our old sinful selves with all our insecurities and doubts and useless thinkin which leads to depression not our bodies. the Bible talks about brothers and sisters falling away from the faith, yeh backsliders can repent and come back into the fold but those who have murderd themselves cannot,we can only be forgiven for our sins if we repent...on this earth.

Isaiah 43:2-3 'when you pass through the waters,I will be with you,and when you pass through the rivers they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire ,you will not be burned the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God the Holy One of Israel.'

Shalom.

When you become suicidal you just don't care anymore, it doesn't matter how many Bible verses you quote, the person just won't care.

I have gotten to the point where I'd rather die and not exist than live for eternity in heaven. You can tell me how wonderful it will be blah blah, but still I'd rather just cease to exist.

I wish I had never been born in the first place, then I wouldn't have to worry about where I'm going when I die. How am I supposed to know which Christians have the real truth, the Protestants (I am one) say you just have to ask for forgiveness to be saved, whereas the Catholics say you have to be baptized as well. What if they are right? What if I don't have a chance to get baptised and the Catholics are right and I am sent to hell. Well great even more suffering for me even though I didn't even ask to be born in the first place.

I really can't say either way where a person would go if they commit suicide. I would like to believe that God's mercy goes beyond what we can ever imagine. I work with severely mentally ill people, and a few have committed suicide. I hope they are in Heaven, free from their illnesses.
That said, I was diagnosed with clinical depression when I was 17. Nothing traumatic happened in my life to cause it, I just was sad and didn't care about anything or anyone. I prayed and prayed, most of the time feeling like God wasn't there. I seriously wanted to die. What stopped me? I knew, even in the deepest emotional black hole, that God had a purpose for my life. Yeah, and I was also afraid to go to hell.
14 years later (this year), I relapsed into depression, I suppose my body had gotten used to the anti-depressant I was on. It got really bad, and I came very close to slitting my wrists, but I knew that's what Satan wanted me to do, and I wasn't giving him that. I know that God has a purpose for me being on this earth. Thankfully, I am blessed with a wonderful family who recognized the signs of what I was going through, and got me back to the doctor. I'm 100% better now, and I thank God for it.
I know my personal experience may seem contradictory to my first paragraph, but like I said, I don't put limits on what God can do or His mercy.

You say when you quote bible verses the 'person just wont care',well ive been there so i know what im talking about to an extent people respond to different things. When i feel depressed i just keep on praying sometimes i find it hard to get into worship but i find prayers even short prayers helpful, even if at the time i dont have much faith i just tell myself to pray anyway. And actually most protestant do believe in baptism,I myself believe in adult baptism and you do have a chance to be baptised-now.I think you just need to keep on searching for God,irrespective of your feelings cos if ,I still struggle but i will not give up and often i do feel like it,but i cant live by my emotions, live by faith no matter how small you think yours is and you see breakthroughs,if I did I would be like treating God's gift of salvation like its cheap ...and it wasnt He gave us His Son.

When reading Bible verses it makes me feel better for a while, but then I fall right back down into my depression so I just don't see the point, I'd rather just stay down here than feel happy for a while and fall again and be disappointed.

I always pray for God to help me through my depression.

I am not God to judge the person doing it.

For me, I wouldn't want to take that chance and think i'll make it to Heaven......and go to hell.......I believe you may go to hell, and hell is to long of a place to stay if I was wrong and going through with it. So I'll stay here and stick it out with me and Jesus and do my best!!!!!
