Some of you may know, those whom I have tried to hit up for pics (sorry for the annoyance ;)), that I like to see them. Now, I was pondering this last night, am I visual person or what? After pondering, I think not, I think it's about perception and I think it's an interesting thing. I have a friend from CF whom I talk to alot, whom I've had phone converstaions with and one thing I found was that my perception of him accross the net was so very different from him. It was really shocking. The way he spoke was not the way I read his words, the emphasis he put on words or phrases was not the way I took them, basically, the interpretation was off. I found that of course, seeing more pics and hearing him on the phone helped to make my perceptions clearer. I really didn't like that, my perceptions being so far off. I am always seeking clearer perceptions whether it is other people, teachings, writings, whatever, always.

Then the next thought is, of course, my perception of another will never be "them". My idea of who someone else is will never be in actual fact who they are so my perception will always miss the mark by a bit, however, over time I do think that the perception can be much nearer than farther and have value.

So, perceptions and their use and need, any thoughts? (and yes, this has relevance on the issue of God, interpretation, etc.)

P.S.: I love looking at pics of the people of CF, I love to put faces to the names so haha, if you've previously been too shy to post in the gallery or put up a mug shot, just send me a PM or post 'em here, lol. ;) Some of you may think that perhaps the outward shell is really meaningless and I get to meet the most important parts of people here, and that is true to a point, I agree, but what I like to see the most is the essence of personality and the smile. The personality part is so important, it takes much more work on this medium, I have had a rather difficult time getting people to see mine for in most cases, they usually see me in black or white and I wish more could come through more clearly, but it's hard. :( Put faces to the names, more clearly perceived personalities to the names.......

Indeed, I feel the same way. But I would not go all dictatorship demanding pics from people who don't want to give me pics, just like how I don't want to post pics due to personal matters with my family in Canada. Sometimes I would walk into a shopping mall and see a face I recognize before, but would not remember the name off. Heck, often I would recognize faces that I've never even came face-to-face with!!!

-Lol, nor would I.

But even then, the ideas that have certainly been brought up here before, of perception.

There are many questions that can stem from that one thought I had, that I want my perceptions to be clearer. How clear can they get (of anything), how does one go about making them clearer (more information, etc.), how high are the chances of error, when can you feel certain that you perceive something correctly, can you ever be? etc., etc.

Too, some people here argue, and I agree, the limiations of reason on issues of proof of God and other such things. Reason is limited, there is a certain point where you must begin from though it not be certain, and there is no certain place to end so, how useful is it?

I have always been of the opinion that I would give up God before reason though I recognize reason's limiations and that's bound up in perception too, what others call subjectivity, but alas....there's lots of thoughts that are floating in my mind and there's lots of connections to such a simple thing as wanting to see someone more clearly.

I have a picture up, but as far as I know only two people have ever seen it. This may well be a good thing... :D

But I do look up people's pictures, when they have them. It's a little odd to see what someone actually looks like, but it does help to put a face to the person you're arguing with. It helps me to 'see' the human behind the words, and reminds me that, a) They may be wrong, but they're prettier than me, and slightly more importantly, b) that it's a person I am talking to, and they deserve respect, even if I do think they are wrong. I should remember that all the time, but I'm a little stupid sometimes. (Ok a lot stupid a lot of the time. ;) )

Despite not being er.. photogenic, I have no qualms about posting my pic and wish I had more of my older photos scanned so I could post pics of stuff that I'm referring to.

I like it when others post their photos, unless it's someone who I like who turns out to er... be not very photogenic. Then I feel bad because I usually have a vision of people I like being handsome or beautiful. That happens only rarely and doesn't effect how I feel about the person, but it's just how I am.

I PMed Erwin about a photo section and I can't remember his precise response, but basically was that the photos section in Christians Only because this was a Christian Forum. This was before they moved the Regional forums and made them open, so he might change his mind at some point.

There's no reason you can't have a profile photo and post photos to a relaxation thread like the Chill Thread stickied at the top of this forum.

I hope he'll revisit the issue.

True.

But, it would seem to be less organized for access and responses as a "Photo Gallery"...in my view.

Also, I wonder if by trying to arrange a "get around" of posting Non-Christian photos by creating a "gallery" inside the Chill Thread it would still violate Erwin's Christian only rule.

There's one poster (I think it's FoC - though for some reason I have a nagging feeling that it's not) who always sounds angry to me. Everything I read from him and he sounds mean and condescending.

I also used to read what Theresa put like that. She had always sounded mean.

Only after I saw thier pictures did I realize that they probably weren't angry (though I think FoC DID say he had anger control issues), and that my intuition was off. Perhaps I thought they sounded angry because they are both older, smart Christians? Maybe I subconsciously conclude that older Christians, when they're not futfilling the sweet mother or father character, were by default angry?

Is there a photo gallery here for Non-Christians and their families?

We need one.

I've PMed him before. The impression I got from his response (he didn't say this specifically, but rather it was inferred) was that it used to be open to atheists, but they had sort of abused the privilege and it became a problem. Thus to solve some of it it was made Christian-only.

Perhaps if they made it so that non-Christians COULD post pictures, but perhaps only if they reach a certain criterium? Such as having 500 posts, or somesuch.

That at least shows that they're active enough members so that they must be known to some people. It makes their want to show who they are more valid.
