Did anyone watch court t.v. about the preacher that got sentenced for child abuse? They believed the autisic child had demons and pinned him to the floor for 2 hrs. The child died because he couldn't breathe. Has this been discussed yet? I agree with the discission that he get 10 yrs. A child is dead, unintentionally but still dead. And the preacher believed it was God's will the child die. Any comments? And I thought it was bad enough when I got my ribs fractured before in a deliverance service but they still thought I had demons but I didn't, I had DID with depression.

I saw an episode of CSI the other nite where a Dr. had done this with a boys mother to try to get him to overcome seizures he was having. I thought it was very disturbing then and I think this is even more so. He needs to take full responsibility for his actions and take the punishment for it.

I've also seen on TV, supposedly therapeutic or remedial approaches to ADD and autistic children, which were very assertive and restraining, suppressing the child's own perspective: which extended to reccomending parents go in for whole body pinning down; in order to get the child to learn to accept authority.

I haven't read any origonal material on this case: and I know that religious groups often have their own traditions in such cases; but there has been a worrying trend in child care, on both sides of the Atlantic, away from negotiation and being led by the child; to a behavioural approach of constraining the child within a collective authority, and a willingness to resort to physical constraint very on in the process.

So, yes, this man failed this child, tragically so: but our general approaches to child care might have not been doing enough to educate that we must work with the child, and not impose our will through power.
