For starters, I would like to keep this open for those who believe in Jesus as their Lord and Savior and who hold the bible to be the source of their devotion to God and as truth. Although interpretations of that truth can differ, I am hoping to keep the focus of this thread toward folks (if possible) who have matured in their faith in God to the point that they hold the old and new testaments as the basis of truth in their premise.

I am straight myself, not defending nor condemning gay people as however, I am curious as to how God feels about this and your interpretations. WHY? The question comes up from time to time with family and friends and came up on another thread. I have found some conflicting material from the bible. Warning:This is probably flame material as this is a controversial subject but I would like to place it up for discussion and hope we are mature enough to handle it. Considering it is such a strong dilemna for some folks, why not see where it goes?

Following are some quotes from other sites regarding the bible and gay people, not my material (the site moderator or person's opinion is usually in black..

"Some people say that Jesus had nothing to say about gay people. Jesus did talk about men who didn't play traditional male roles, who didn't procreate, and he said they could be born different, or make themselves different, and that either way was okay with Him:
Mt 18:3
For there are some eunuchs which were so born from their mother's womb...and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it."
-----------

Ok, hang on to your hats on this one and don't read if you are easily angered on this subject. I am curious as to what some of the folks who read scripture perhaps more than I think..

" Sam 18:1
The soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. I Sam 18:3
Jonathan and David made a covenant because he [Jonathan] loved him as his own soul. We see how Jonathan gave David his most personal apparel: I Sam 18:4
And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle. There is no doubt about the intensity of this love: I Sam 19:2
Jonathan Saul's son delighted much in David. I Sam 20:4
Then said Jonathan unto David, Whatsoever thy soul desireth, I will even do it for thee. And in case we are wondering how significant this love was, King David spelled it out: II Sam 1:26
Thy love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women. Was their love more than platonic? Well, you decide... I Sam 20:41
...they kissed one another, and wept one with another, until David exceeded. The Religious Tolerance Web Site states that, while the King James Version says "exceeded," the original Hebrew is actually, "David became large." When you love somebody as much as David loved Jonathan, you can imagine what "becoming large" means. Of course, most Sunday school teachers would rather not talk about this passage, and they either skip over it or say something like "David cried the most." It's clear that David loved Jonathan, and they hugged, and kissed, and felt tender loving warmth for one another. And that love was beautiful because all love is beautiful. Love defines itself. It is the most powerful force there is because God is Love."

I think that the only thing that governs whether someone is condemned or not is their faith in Christ. Gays who trust Christ as thier savior will be saved, those who do not will not. I do think that sex should only be between a man and wife and so homosexuals who act on their urges are sinning, but then every time I look upon a woman with lust in my heart I commit a similar sin. Both sins are washed away by Jesus' blood and will be forgiven those who trust in Him.

Both the NIV and NLT interpret that last quote about David and Jonathan to mean that David was crying harder. As I do not know Hebrew or Greek, I could comment upon which translation is the accurate one. I have never found any reason to doubt the NIV, so I would say that their relationship was just platonic. Kissing in those days was a common sign of affection and friendship as well as romantic love.

I just read this passage in my Bible (NKJV) and I don't know-- I just take it that they had a strong bond of friendship. I mean, I love my best friend dearly adn have hugged her and let her cry on my shoulder but it doesn't mean i had any sexual feelings for her.

I agree with the previous posters, I my self have not had this close of a friendship with another male, perhaps it is just not the cultural norm for striaght male in the this day and age. Who's to say what it was like back in Davids time.

I know of 2 people who are my friends that were in the gay lifestyle, one for 11 years and the other a lesbian. They both love the lord and are commited to Him. My friend who was living this way for 11 years has a wife and 3 children.
I myself think it is a personal choice to live the gay lifestyle, even though you may be bent' toward it. Similar to people why dring, or who have anger issues. But when we subject our lives to Jesus, and have Him incontrol, we can have victory over out temptations.

Peace. EJO

First of all, I do NOT believe that Jonathan and David were homosexual. In those days, people were not shy about expressing their emotions. It was not "weak" or looked-down-upon for men to be just as caring and loving as women are. Women do this sort of thing with their friends all the time and it has nothing to do with sexuality, it has to do with caring for someone in the purest sense of the form and expressing your platonic love and concern for another.

David was one of God's most favored men, and even when listing David's sins, homosexuality was not mentioned. And it is clear in the following verses that God views homosexuality as a sin:

Jude 1:7 -
What happened to Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities near them is an example for us of the punishment of eternal fire. The people of these cities suffered the same fate that God's people and the angels did, because they committed sexual sins and engaged in homosexual activities. (The New Living Translation)

1 Corinthians 6:9-11
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. (New King James Version)

The last verse simply states that all of those things are a SIN, detestable by God. (Note: The sin, NOT the person, is detestable) but that when you repent of those sins and turn away from them to God, you are washed clean and become new, become a child of God able to enter His kingdom (Heaven).

I strongly believe that Homosexuality, along with all the other things stated in the above verses, is a sin. But that doesn't mean I hate the people who take part in these acts. Instead, I love them and I pray for them that they may see the acts they're participating in through God's eyes and turn from their ways to do what is right.

Per Ardua Ad Astra...
I agree with Elizabeth, the Bible recognizes homosexuality as a sin in numerous places.

Asking if homosexuals are condemned is like asking if adulterers are condemed or murderers are condemned. These are sins, not people and should be treated as such.

Also, even if David and Jonathan were gay, it would still be a sin in the eyes of God. And if you think that it excuses homosexuality then you ignore the rest of the bible and you might as well get out the scissors and cut out all the verses that don't support your ideas.

The bible is concrete. It clearly states that homosexuality is a sin. And I don't think I need to explain how to take care of sin. ;)

Just people.

Amen to that!!!

As far as David and Jonathan are concerned, it never ever says anywhere that David professed any love for Jonathan. All it says is that David cried harder, say, sobbed even. But then again, someone was trying to kill him and this guy was stepping in to help save his life.

I am not gonna read anymore into that subject, any more than I am gonna read into Tinky Winky Teletubby's big purse.

In point to the original subject, anyone is condemned who doesn't accept Christ as his or her Savior, be they gay, straight, polka dotted or striped. Sin is sin, and no one sin is worse than others. ALL sin needs to be repented of so that we can be back in accordance with God.

read this , I've posted it on another forum. Link:www.bible.com

What Does the Bible Say About Homosexuality?

We realize that with the growing popularity and glamorization of homosexuality, that this subject can be a very difficult one to address. Furthermore, as hate crimes specifically committed against homosexuals occur, many feel that this issue shouldn't be addressed at all for fear of only adding to the hostile environment that many homosexuals face. Despite the cultural climate in which we live, this issue must be addressed according to the Word of God. God's laws are always for our good, although man may see them as restricting. In the end, only obedience to the Word of God can bring true freedom. We address this issue out of God's love for the homosexual to bless and help him.

Much of our society has embraced many perverted sexual practices that are considered in the Bible as abominations to God. Homosexuality is among the list of deviate or abnormal sexual practices however, there are many other practices that can be included as well. inappropriate contentography, pedophilia, prostitution, inappropriate behavior with animals, oral sex, phone sex and computer virtual reality sex, just to name a few of them.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (NIV): "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters, nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God."

Although the Bible doesn't detail each and every one of these sinful acts, it does clearly speak out about many of them. Any deviation from God's original plan for sex between a married man and woman is still a sin in God's eyes. The main reason we call these things perverted is because they are unnatural and scripture clearly tells us those who do such things are committing abominations. Leviticus 18:22 (KJV): "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind it is abomination."

Homosexuality is also referred to as the sin of sodomy. This reference comes from an account in the Bible of two exceedingly wicked cities, Sodom and Gomorrah, which the Lord destroyed. Sodom was known for its rampant homosexuality and unrestrained sexual lust, as well as other sins such as arrogance, haughtiness, and disregard for the poor. When the Lord sent angels to warn Lot who lived in the city that it was about to be destroyed, the men of the city actually wanted to rape the angels! Genesis 13:13: "But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly."

In the Old Testament the penalty for this sin was severe. Leviticus 20:13: "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." Today the penalty of death comes in the form of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. It also brings death to the soul and spirit of man because the life of God is pushed out by indulging in something that is an abomination to God. God wants to deliver all who are trapped in this unholy practice and He will if anyone calls out to Him with a sincere heart.

Romans 1:24-32:

24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

These scriptures clearly state that these vile affections of men lusting for other men (gay men) or women lusting for other women (lesbians) are not the natural affections God created men and women to have for one another. Let me say here that God loves all homosexuals! However, He hates the deeds of homosexuality because they are sinful. God did not create any human being as a homosexual. They are not born that way, just as murderers are not born that way. However, these spirits can be transmitted to children, especially if someone who had this demonic spirit seduced or raped a child--or even if they were close to gay people. These demons can also be imparted to others through unholy sexual acts.

People become homosexuals because they yield to abnormal acts or lust. It is through some source that they have received a demonic spirit that drives them to their lust. Viewing evil videos or inappropriate contentographic books is a way of opening the door for Satan to give one an evil, perverse spirit. Though people are not born as homosexuals, the Bible does say all human beings are born with a sin nature. If we yield to the evils of our flesh it will lead to our destruction not only in this life, but in the life to come. However, through faith in Jesus Christ and His death on the cross we can break the hold that sin has upon us. We do not have to yield to the old fleshy nature but we can now overcome evil temptations and live our lives controlled by the Holy Spirit.

Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father
.

Sex is God's idea and its purpose is not only for procreation, but also for recreation and the development of a deep relationship between man and woman. Nothing is wrong or dirty about sex when it is engaged in the bonds of marriage as the Lord commanded in the Bible. However, when perversions are committed inside the marriage relationship, this can be sinful also. God made man and woman and brought them together "face to face." Oral sex is of homosexual origin that replaces the normal "face to face" relationship God intended in a marriage. The Bible describes the sex act in Song of Solomon Chapter 4. In this chapter it speaks of this "face to face" relationship by describing looking into his lover's eyes and kissing his lover's lips and fondling his lover's breasts. Oral sex is not normal or natural as it is an unclean act.

No one has to live in bondage with an abnormal life of homosexuality nor any other abnormal behavior. No one has to be controlled by inappropriate contentography. No one has to have evil thoughts plague their minds. There is a way out through what Jesus has done for us. He loves sinners and wants to free us from any evil practices. He will empower those who cry out for deliverance to get free and stay free. Here are the steps you must take to get free:

(1.) Make a total commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ. Be willing to turn your life completely over to the will of God and yield to His plan for your life. This means you must be willing to do anything, go anywhere and give up any thing as He leads. Remember, God will never lead you to do anything that is not in agreement with the Bible. You can trust God. He created you and has a better plan for your life.

(2.) Your must pray and read your Bible daily. You must study and apply the Word of God to overcome Satan's attacks. The way that you resist the attacks of the devil is by quoting the Word of God to him. When the devil came to tempt Jesus, He simply quoted the Word to him. Good praise tapes will also be of a great help when you are tempted. Put one on and start singing along with it.

(3.) You must pray for and seek out a strong Bible believing group of Holy Spirit filled people. You will need their help and fellowship. As you humble yourself and seek help, the Lord will deliver you. Ask God to lead you to someone that can pray the prayer of deliverance for you, as you probably will need to be set free from a demon. You should also seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit as you will need His power to get free and to remain free.

(4.) You must cut off all sources and relationships that would lead you back into sin. The Bible tells us to flee fornication (sexual sins). You must get out of any corrupt entanglements, or areas that you know will be a temptation to you. If you have been hooked on internet inappropriate contentography subscribe to an Internet Service Provider that will filter out the inappropriate contentography for you. Destroy all evil books and videos.

(5.) Should you slip or fall back occasionally, repent and get right back up and go on with God. Do not allow the devil to condemn you once you have repented. Put your sin under the blood of Jesus. He will strengthen you and you will win this battle because of the Lord's promise to you. Remember, He loves you and is there to help you. Run to Him when you get in trouble, never run from Him. He will not ever give up on you! We too, will be standing with you for your total healing and deliverance. Philippians 1:6: "Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ."

(6.) You must forgive everyone that has ever hurt you. You can only do this through the power of God. You must by a simple act of your will voice the forgiveness and then the Lord will give you the feeling of forgiveness. This may be a while in coming but just keep forgiving when you think of any wrong that has been done to you. The Lord will give you His love for those people who have wronged you.

Prayer for Deliverance

Finally we want to pray for you right now if you need it:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come to you in the mighty name of Jesus and we ask that you touch this one right now, first of all with your love and forgiveness. Lord, wash their sins away. Wash away all the uncleanness and guilt. Lord we ask you to free them right now from the powers of darkness.

Now, we speak to Satan and his demons and we command them to leave in the name of Jesus! Satan, this one is no longer under your power. The blood of Jesus has set them free! We resist you and you must flee! This one belongs to God and you have no more authority over them! Be gone!

Dear Lord, thank you that you have set this one free and we are believing that you will lead them to the right people that will help them to walk out this deliverance. We break every chain of iniquity over their life and cancel every evil word that has been spoken against them. We declare they will walk in your victory and that you will enable them to do it. Lord, fill them with your Holy Sprit and guide them in the ways of God! We speak blessing and success to them. Most of all, we pray that they will feel your love for them right now. We ask this all in the precious name of Jesus. Amen.

As with any sin, Homosexual activity, weather it be in the heart or in action, is grounds for judgment. The sin of Homosexyality is a sin, but God does point it out as one that is an abombination. Sin is sin. The Bible is clear. If a person is not saved, or (in my openion) is saved and still openly sins, weather it be Homosexuality or not, any sin that is not covered by the Blood is grounds judgment. And we all know what that judgment is.

I fermly believe that salvation requires us to not only ask for forgiveness for our sin, but to repent of the sin . . . repent, meaning "turn away". And not just "turn the other cheek", but accually STOP sinning.

With this is mind, I truly believe that all sin will send you to hell if you do not repent, and I believe that homosexuality is one of thoes sins that is harder to really repent of, in mind and body, than most.

The real question is, does a homosexual believe that "freedom" is more importnat, or eternal salvation?

I think y'all will enjoy reading this man's testimony about his life as a gay man, and how Jesus turned his life around. And the best part? He's married to a woman who had just as horrible a life as he had, and together they had 9 (NINE!!!!!) kids

Read it, and be blessed!

Hmm.. Case not closed...some of the other links suggest otherwise as to the condemnation. Maybe take a look, this is just one example...:

An Abomination - Leviticus 18:22 & 20:13 Perhaps the two most widely abused verses used to condemn homosexuality come from Leviticus.
You shall not lie with man as one lies with a women; this is an abomination.
Leviticus 18:22 If a man also lie with mankind as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they should surely be put to death.
Leviticus 20:13
First of all, the Holiness Code of Leviticus was written primarily as a ritual manual for Israel's priests. Christians today are not bound by the rules and rituals described in Leviticus. (Galatians 3:22-25) If Christians today insist on using this passage to condemn homosexuality, then they are also bound by the other rules and rituals described in Leviticus. Among other things, the Holiness Code of Leviticus prohibits:
 •
 • Sexual intercourse during a women's menstrual cycle
 • Tattoos
 • Wearing certain types of jewelry
 • Eating certain kinds of meat
 • Wearing clothing made from blended textiles (cotton-polyester blends)
 • Cross-breeding livestock
 • Sowing a field with mixed seed
 • Eating or touching the dead flesh of pigs, rabbits, & some forms of seafood
 • Men cutting their hair or shaving their beards
The Holiness Code also endorses polygamy and requires Saturday to be reserved as the Sabbath. Obviously, it is unfair to use these passages to condemn homosexuality, while ignoring the fact that most Christians do not follow the rest of the rules and rituals outlined in the Holiness Code of Leviticus. It should also be noted that the word abomination was translated from the Hebrew word toevah and means something found detestable by God because it is unclean, disloyal, or unjust. The term abomination is generally associated with idolatry and the Canaanite religious practice of cult prostitution. (Ezekiel) Given toevah's strong association with cult prostitution it is unlikely that this passage applies to loving responsible homosexual relationships. this is just one example...

"And if you think that it excuses homosexuality then you ignore the rest of the bible and you might as well get out the scissors and cut out all the verses that don't support your ideas."

No I don't think it excuses anything, and cut and paste has nothing to do with it. These are the verses that the site moderators are addressing in reference, and cut and paste is a great way to display them for questioning.

"The bible is concrete. It clearly states that homosexuality is a sin."

Then how do you address the links and interpretation of them? It is also a sin then to eat certain foods. Do you pray for forgiveness after you eat them?

"condemn gays just as it's not up to us to condemn the soul of murderers"

Interesting comparison on one line, lol. Gays/Murderers, rapists? How much of this is really questioned or brainwashed from generation from generation? I have to admit as I did on the other posts that I cringe when I see two guys. But does my bodily reaction justify a condemnation on my part? Is it ok to just dimiss people because of something they are geneticly predisposed to? How hard would it be for any of us to stop being attracted to the opposite sex. Answer: We won't, you can't, just as you cant stop your hair from growing (theoretically). This is in part why I think more people are questioning the churches "rock solid" condemnation. I think most folks just dismiss it because it's "not my problem." Have we done our homework here before we start comparing them to "murderers" in the same sentence?
