God: Inside/Outside of time?

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.

Well I think that this simply means that the Lord does not experience time as we experience time, this it seems to me is precisely because He is eternal.

This could be seen as saying that God has as 'long' as he desires to experience a single day.

and a thousand years are like a day.

Whereas this shows that he also experiences great expanses of time as 'quickly' as he desires.

I dont think that the periods 1000 years and 1 day are literal though, they simply communicate the underlying concept that God is not bound by time as we are bound by time.

Of course in context the verse is actually aiming to encourage us to have faith in God's timing and not become impatient, this would in fact be the real point.
