ok, I have another question pertaining to religion. Everyone knows the story of Noah, he has to get 2 of each animal and put em on a boat and it rains for 40 days. So where did all the rain come from? I've heard one theory that rain had been collecting in a cloud for a while, and then it rained down. But wouldn't that mean little sunlight would reach plants? This loss of sunlight and the fact that all the plants are underwater for 40 days, would kill many of them. So did all the plants die? And if they did, what did the herbivores eat? And if not, what did all the carnivores eat. In order to sustain just one carnivore and its young, the animals would have to reproduce for many genrations so the carnivores could eat them. Second, what about all the protists and monerans? Did Noah bring them on the boat too, or did many of them die as well? So where did the water come from. I read on another Christian site in support of Noahs story that if all the ice caps melted, then the Earth would be covered a mile deep in water. However, what would cause the change in temperature that melted these ice caps. And after the 40 days, where did the water go. That much water doens't soak into the ground or evaporate. So did it all freeze? and if it did, wouldn't it freeze evenly over the earth making earth an ice ball, where no one could survive, not even Noah and his animals. Also, for Noah to get two of every animal in the world, this would mean he would have to travel around the word to collect these animals. This kind of travel was not aviable at the time. Thanks for anwsering my questions.

I hope i can more fully offer explanation... but here are some quick replys for now -

1. God made a firmamnet to seperate the waters above from the waters beneath... as mysteruious as it seems the word firmament has application to the sky ans atmospheric regions yes, and seems also to refer to a particular structure or containment around the earth. When the flood came not only did the waters from beneath break and spring up, but the waters above ( above the firmament ) came down... seems to imply the literal firmamnet was broken or destroyed.

2. The law of kinds would not necessitate that Noah gather pairs, etc. of eacg species... just each kind ( i.e/ dog/wolf kind , horse kind, reptillian kind(s), . From these kinds, through natural selction ( not evilution ) when could easily arrive at the varied species alive today.

3. As for p[lant life living so forth... it seems evident that all plant life died, yes... but as the waters abated and sunlight began to work they revived, seeeds began to grow, uprooted plants took root, whatever... you get the idea. By the time the Dove was sent, plant life had returned, when the dove didn't retrurn, Noah knew there was sufficient plant life to susatin life. On the ark, Noah at the instruction of God had made provisions for feeding.

4. God destroyed those alove upon the earth ( dry land), those in the water would not nescessarily hjave been destroyed, though it is possible some may have been.

God bless

Good day all, this is my first post here. Concerning all the water from the flood, where did it come from, and where did it go? What I have to say concerning this is only my conjecture based on circumstancial evidence. When the scriptures say "it rained on the earth for 40 days and 40 nights" (Gen. 7:11-12), I do not believe that what is meant is what we normally associate with drops falling from the sky. Personally, I'm more inclined to believe that the rain was more like standing under a waterfall. This is said because if one has a map of the under-sea surface, it will be noticed that all the major river valleys extend about 1500 feet below the ocean surface, and out into the sea, than what they are now. This would indicate that the earth's sea level was once (appx 1500 ft.) lower than it is at present. That all the extra water possibly came from the overhead canopy, but was there enough there to cause such a sea level raise? I'm thinking that it is also possible that extra water came in from outer space, because of the disruption of the "atmospherics" that the Lord of creation placed around the earth of Noah's day. That in order for the canopy to collapse, and the earth to break open to cause the underground water to spring forth, there would, of necessity, have to be something extra terrestrial in nature to cause such a disruption.
