well, there's a lot of stuff that doesn't make it on the news or is fraudalent in the news too... a relative of mine is a firefighter and he called the house this morning to let us know our county had been put on an heightened state of alert for terrorist attack. the fbi and department of homeland security came themselves and issued it then requested firefighters help. they confiscated weapons grade explosives without any military labels or anything on them. on the local news this afternoon it just mentioned a heightened state of alert and the problem was taken care of. didn't say anything about the explosives...

Who knows Brewmama....hopefully we'd have more backbone, but you never know *rolleyes*
Backbone in what regards? I am more than willing to stand behind a actual war against terrorism, but unfortunately that war is truthfully just a war of intelligence gathering. Nothing we have done on the ground in regards to battle has stopped the terrorist none what so ever.

And I'm sure you're right Doctrine. I am positive that you and I have all the intelligence necessary to determine that. Not.

How many terrorist attacks have been thwarted over the past 2 years? Any idea? I surely don't know - I'm humble enough to admit that, and humble enough to be thankful that me and mine are safe.

As far as the war on terror? I believe that's what it is 110%. If it wasn't fought "over there", it would be here as it was originally intended. No thank you.

There is no such thing as "overthere" with terrorists. Al-Qaida is in over 60 different countries including our own, and there ranks have climbed since the war, specially the Iraq. "Over there" we are simply or rather unsimply installing a Government. I feel somewhat safe as well for now, despite what terror alert color it maybe. Perception is everything.

Report: al-Qaida Ranks Swelling Worldwide

"LONDON - Far from being crippled by the U.S.-led war on terror, al-Qaida has more than 18,000 potential terrorists scattered around the world and the war in Iraq (news - web sites) is swelling its ranks, a report said Tuesday.

Al-Qaida is probably working on plans for major attacks on the United States and Europe, and it may be seeking weapons of mass destruction in its desire to inflict as many casualties as possible, the International Institute of Strategic Studies said in its annual survey of world affairs.

Osama bin Laden (news - web sites)'s network appears to be operating in more than 60 nations, often in concert with local allies, the study by the independent think tank said.

Although about half of al-Qaida's top 30 leaders have been killed or captured, it has an effective leadership, with bin Laden apparently still playing a key role, it said."

There are numerous reports to support this throughout the span of the war, and the fact that this war has in fact done the opposite of it's stated intentions.

Really don't know what you meant to infer but the idea that terrorists are not ramping up in numbers due to our non terrorist war in Iraq, that imminent threat, is baffling.

Well in Spain the country swung sharply left. I don't know if it would work here.
I don't think Spain swung sharply left. The war in Iraq was widely unpopular BEFORE the terrorist attack. It's not like Spain was a bastion of conservatism beforehand.

Hmmm. Since the first Guld War, how many Iraqis have attacked the US on our own soil? How many Iraqi terrorist networks have been uncovered?

Iraq was one huge red herring. It diverted our attention from afghanistan, and also from Saudi Arabia, where most of the terrorists came from.

What I think some people fail to realize is that lil' old Libya had the resources and talent to send its agents out to blow up one of our airliners over Lockerbie, Scotland. If Libya did it, what would prevent Saddam from doing the same? He already demonstrated his bravado by shooting at our fighters on an almost daily basis and trying to assasinate former president George Bush.... but forget all of that for a moment. I'm glad we attacked Iraq and spared the lives of hundreds of thousands of people who would have perished under Saddam's brutal regime.
