So ur church isn't doing anything special this week at all?  I don't remember saying that we give God special attention during this week only?

We do wonderful, special stuff at our church every week, that's all. We don't wait for C or E to celebrate God.

Welp lets see - on Spy Wednesday we will have a special service for the members of the chapter.

on Holy Thursday we will have the priesthood Mass in which we will commemorate the institution of the Eucharist, at this mass the Eucharist will be consecrated for Good Friday as well since there will be no mass only communion on Good Friday. On this day, the Eucharist is removed from all the chapels in preparation for the resurrection.
Also on Holy Thursday we will have a Passover sadder in which the Lord is revealed in the elements of the Passover.
Also on Holy Thursday there is the foot washing and all night vigil. Remembering when the Lord when into the garden to pray and the apostles could not stay awake with him.

Good Friday -

In the morning there is an anointing service for those who kept the vigil and then we have both private and public services that day. At both the public and the private services there is veneration. At the private service all the members of the order prostrate three times - once for the world, once for their family, once for their own needs - then venerate the cross. At the public service there will also be veneration.

I'll be at church on Friday and Sunday.
I think it just makes us remember the suffering that Christ went through on our behalf. So often, people just say that Jesus died on the cross and leave it at that. It is important to remeber that He was spit on, beaten, ridiculed, etc... (Who has been bullied at some point in their life? Remember what it felt like?)
Easter is my favorite Christian holiday.

Lambslove, ty for posting in this thread, but to me this is a very special week as we remember what our Lord went through on our behalf. I agree that all weeks are holy ..... but this particular week is a special time of reflection and remembering what our Lord went through. God bless u and ty u for posting.

Thursday I have to work when my church is having a seder meal and then a service that will include communion and the stripping of the sanctuary.

But another area United Methodist church is having a noon service on Thursday, so I might try to get to that.

Friday I will be going to my church for our Good Friday service.

Sunday I will be attending service at our regular time.

In the anglican tradition stripping of the sanctuary included taking down candles and flowers, etc.  The altar was also covered as well as the cross above the altar.

On Holy Thursday the celebrant, having removed the ciborium from the high altar, goes to the sacristy. He there lays aside the white vestments and puts on a violet stole, and, accompanied by the deacon, also vested in violet stole, and the subdeacon, returns to the high altar. Whilst the antiphon "Diviserunt sibi" and the psalm "Deus, Deus meus" are being recited, the celebrant and his assistants ascend to the predella and strip the altar of the altar-cloths, vases of flowers, antipendium, and other ornaments, so that nothing remains but the cross and the candlesticks with the candles extinguished. In the same manner all the other altars in the church are denuded. If there be many altars in the church, another priest, vested in surplice and violet stole, may strip them whilst the celebrant is stripping the high altar. The Christian altar represents Christ, and the stripping of the altar reminds us how He was stripped of his garments when He fell into the hands of the Jews and was exposed naked to their insults. It is for this reason that the psalm "Deus, Deus meus" is recited, wherein the Messias speaks of the Roman soldiers dividing His garments among them. This ceremony signifies the suspension of the Holy Sacrifice. It was formerly the custom in some churches on this day to wash the altars with a bunch of hyssop dipped in wine and water, to render them in some manner worthy of the Lamb without stain who is immolated on them, and to recall to the minds of the faithful with how great purity they should assist at the Holy Sacrifice and receive Holy Communion. St. Isidore of Seville (De Eccles. Off, I, xxviii) and St. Eligius of Noyon (Homil. VIII, De Coena Domini) say that this ceremony was intended as an homage offered to Our Lord, in return for the humility wherewith He deigned to wash the feet of His disciples.

The stripping of the alter and the reproaches is one of the most profound things I know of. I ALWAYS weep during this service - especially when the alter is scourged.

Hiya Br Max,

I cry then, too. Holy Thursday feels so, so, so........odd. No dismissal. Seeing all the "stuff" removed from the altar. The silence. It's hard to describe the feeling. My heart hurts. *sigh* Wish I had the words. However, the bottom line is that it's quite an awesome time. This year both of my older boys are participating in the washing of feet and my little one is getting his foot washed. This should be very neat.

angelus: at our church the priests, deacons, and elders do the feet washing and the wash EVERYONES feet.

I know what you are saying though about the emptiness. I guess I experience it differently though since for the most part we stay in vigil all night. I will be up all through the night praying and listening to the hourly readings of the passion until the dismissal comes around 6:00AM after an anointing of all present. I'll also be doing an hour of vigil in the antechapel this year Thursday night.

Does anyone elses church do an antechapel during holy week? I'm sure most Catholics do, I'm wondering if the Anglicans, etc., do.

What's even more fun is that this holy week in the midst of everything else we have a funeral.
