Once again I repeat that Rumsfeld admits that he is a failure!

""If there's a failure, it's me. It's my failure for not understanding and knowing that there were hundreds or however many there are of these things that could eventually end up in the public and do the damage they've done," Rumsfeld said, talking about photographs of the abuse."

Is he more worried about his and Bush's public image? Rumsfeld wears his morality on his shirt.

Make it now six threads that basically deals with the very same issue. :(

Of course he's going to accept responsibility for it... I'm sure if he didn't admit responsibility people here would be bashing him for it too....

Frankly, I like what Joe Liberman had to say. Would someone be interested in posting his comments?

I agree with mhatten, what did he say? :)

LIEBERMAN: I cannot help but say, however, that those who are responsible for killing 3,000 Americans on September 11th, 2001, never apologized. Those who have killed hundreds of Americans in uniform in Iraq, working to liberate Iraq and protect our security have never apologized, and those who murdered and burned and humiliated four Americans in Fallujah a while ago never received an apology from anybody.

Now there appears to be photos and video tape of rape and murder. Rape and murder!! Since America is supposedly a Christian nation, if I were a Christian I would be furious. Yet no one seems to care on this forum at least.

Umm, if I were a HUMAN BEING, I would be furious about those charges.

I watched Rumsfield speak before the Senate. Honestly, I would not want to be in his shoes, trying to explain the actions of certain members of the military. For some reason, I was even surprised he was willing to mention that not only were their more pictures, but they were far worse than the ones the public has already seen. <sigh>. Pictures depicting the rape of young boys? I'm beyond disgusted.

I agree with you 100 percent. Now go away! Just trying to stimulate the thread.

Rumy has no choice at this point. He needs to bare all, to save himself and the presidency. Which is my complaint with him. Yet I admit that he wasn't in the prison raping children, it was just Americans.

Here's my thought on it.

I wonder how many other nations would have their Secretary of Defense apologize. How many would actually feel enough remorse to check their ego's at the door and do it.

It's not a Republican thing - I'd feel the same way if Kerry were President, and it was one of his men in front of a congressional hearing. And here's another thought; there's so much pointing of fingers and the rhetorical chant of, "everyone hates the U.S.". Seeing the Secretary of Defense grovel and apologize is going to make a difference? Absolutely not. The world has basically hated the U.S. since 1776 and only likes us when we can provide a service (such as military...WWI & II amongst others).

There's a "boys club" that is state funded here in Washington - lots of molestation and allegations made but the primary politician involved in this club was never forced to resign. In fact, she's going to run for Governor this year (Democrat).

Frankly, how much of this is moral and how much is political? If this weren't an election year, would it have gotten this far?

Just some sincere questions.

I do not know if there would've been calls for Rumsfield to be impeached. By I suspect, it would have gone this far, regardless. Those pictures are heinous, and regardless of the administration, no single politician would want to even remotely look like they were responsible for that.

Excuse me? Pathetic? I'll come back in awhile to respond to your post when I don't feel like responding to the vitriolic nastiness in kind.

You want to know what I think is really pathetic? The fact that you are so sensitive to criticism of your beloved president and your beloved country that you are willing to lash out at these critics and question their motives. Maybe you should consider the fact that what happened has repercussions way beyond this administration?

With all due respect Jameseb, this issue cannot remain within some prophylatic of propriety. This is a huge human degradation matter, which implicates the whole of American society, and its hallowed values. This is a huge issue: which might cost countless lives, in its unfolding; I do not think we can deny it thread space.
Though I do admire your busy fire engine work in this.

Um, how was that "slandering the world?" I'm not sure if I understand how this pertains to the topic... perhaps a refreshing of your point?
