  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Quit demonizing nuclear as nothing but weapons. Nuclear also provides power, medical treatments, powers the Sun, and dates rocks to establish the age of our planet.
Nuclear family good. Promotion of non nuclear family does not promote the continuity of civilization (bad). I hope this helps.

Most people who are super concerned about the nuclear family do not seem very interested in the continuity of civilization. In fact they seem rather fatalistic about its demise.

Your opinion only.

I never meant for it to!
Shutting down conversations doesn’t get us any closer to resolving the issue at hand: Governor issues proclamation during Pride month that both negates Pride month and champions “normal” people as the core of society.

I wonder if some people on the right believe that if they can push queer people into the closet hard enough, they will magically become loving, married heterosexual parents.

Said the guy making an opinion claim.

What is it about a mother rasing her children alone after they are abandoned by a dead-beat dad or the father dies, or living under the same roof with the grandparents stops civilization from continuing?
I never meant for it to!
It would be better if it was about protons.

You don’t think we’re near the “end times”?
If we are, then there's nothing fatalistic about the 2nd Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Technically, from a Christian perspective, we've been in "the end times" for the past 2,000 years. Not to go off topic.

Peace

You seem to have a very limited definition of civilization. Nuclear families are one way to create a civilization, but far from the only one. Families can look very different from that model and still work, raising children who are happy, healthy and productive members of society. This has always been the case, in fact, throughout human history. For example, some civilizations use the "it takes a village" approach to raising children, and it works too. You even see that here in the US, usually in small towns, even alongside more traditional nuclear families.

No matter what families look like, civilization will continue to exist. It might look different than it used to, but that's always been the case. Even the so-designated "nuclear family" looks different today than it did in the 1950s, the 1850s, or the 1050s.

Well? This is a fair observation, and I understand what you’re saying, but it still takes a man and woman to create another human. Each person only has one biological father and one biological mother- even if the biological parents don’t claim their children.

Not to go off topic, but I have a cousin, now nearly 60, who is the biological mother of twins she carried for a couple. (This was in the early 2000s). The mother is her best friend.

She doesn’t call herself a mother, but claims her biological children as her niece and nephew.

Just a random anecdote.

Indeed. Society changes. Nothing will stop that.

For a majority, yes. The nuclear family has been the so called “norm.”

Humans aren’t going to stop reproducing anytime soon. We have biological urges that demand we do.

True enough. But the issue isn't human reproduction, it's civilization. We're not talking about where babies come from, but what we do with them after they get here. That can take many forms, and it all becomes part of civilization, which ain't gonna end no matter how we raise them kids.

It always has, and it always will. Nothing's gonna stop it, and families looking different from the Cleaver household won't end it.
