Hello BibleBeliever1611, while it's possible to look at a single verse in the Bible and understand what God means by it (out-of-context, IOW), that's hardly true of every verse in the Bible (which is why God commands us to "rightly divide" His word, yes .. 2 Timothy 2:15).Then you don't believe the Bible then because you don't believe the verses I just quoted on the first post. The words of the wise being like nails is a biblical concept. Preaching the truth regardless of what people think about it. And preaching hard, causing a little bit of drama if you will. That's biblical. The Bible is called a sword, a sword is a weapon.
Here's a didactic teaching from the Lord Jesus Himself, one that I believe to be a good example of why we always need to "rightly divide" His word, first and foremost by making sure that our chosen understanding of a single verse or passage in the Bible does not contradict what is clearly taught elsewhere in it.
Luke 14
26 If anyone comes to Me and does not ~hate~ his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.
So, what do we do with this? IOW, how do we figure out what the Lord really meant/what He truly intended for us to understand by these words of His?
Thanks!
God bless you!!
--David
p.s. - here's another verse to consider in regard to this, just for good measure
1 Timothy 2
15 Women will be ~saved through childbearing~, if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control.
2 Timothy 2
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
