  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Donald Trump Stimulus Check Update: White House ‘Committed’ on $2K Payments

He also spoke about it at the Oval Office on Monday and said it would apply to "middle-income people and lower-income people," though he did not specify what that income threshold would be.

Redistribution of wealth!

An analysis by the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget (CRFB) estimated the cost of such rebate checks at $600 billion annually, which is double the total annual revenue projected from new tariffs in 2025. The CRFB warned that this could add $6 trillion to the national deficit over a decade if continued annually.

“Like so many Trump statements, the promise of $2,000 tariff rebate checks was so broadly phrased as to be hard to assess," Calvin Jillson, a politics professor at Southern Methodist University, told Newsweek. "He certainly could not have meant a $2,000 check to every American, even every American adult or every taxpayer, as these would cost several times what the tariffs have brought in. Expect a much scaled-down version of the initial broad promise.”

No. Try addressing real issues, not the ones you make up to easily defeat.
If the issue is people being fooled with a $2000 check, I predict that hardly anyone will change their opinion about Trump and the people who hate him the most will gladly take the cash only to turn around and trash him for it.

So are you going to address the points I raised at some point, or continue down the rabbit hole of beating up your own mischaracterization of others positions?

In a sign that things are definitely going well for his second term, Donald Trump is promising to send cash to every American. Tucked away in a series of posts on Truth Social that railed against recent setbacks for his tariff scheme, Trump promised a tariff dividend for every American worth several thousand dollars.

“People that are against Tariffs are FOOLS! We are now the Richest, Most Respected Country In the World, With Almost No Inflation, and A Record Stock Market Price. 401k’s are Highest EVER. We are taking in Trillions of Dollars

Let's do some simple maths:

US tariffs collected to end of Sep-2025: $174 billion
US tariffs collected to end of Sep-2024: $58 billion

US tariffs per month (3-month average): $29 billion

Expected tariffs for 2025: $270-275 billion
Expected tariffs for 2026: $290-310 billion

US population (Jul-2025): 342 million

342 million x $2,000 = $648 billion.

Congratulations, you've now collected negative $350 billion in tariffs.

It's no wonder the rest of the world alternates between pointing and laughing and being noisily sick when considering the current US administration.

Well, if the 342 million includes children under 18 (which it does) then I don't think that's a realistic figure to use.

...I mean does anyone here think 1st graders deserve two thousand dollar checks?

A half trillion payout? We will see how many people are fooled by being paid off with their own money.
If this is the point you are referring to, I already have addressed it.

What do the words "all" and "every" mean, when prefacing the word "American"?

Sigh...

US population under 18 is 74 million.

342 million - 74 million = 268 million.

268 million x $2,000 = $536 billion.

Congratulations, you're still negative $225 billion in tariffs. And, that's before you consider that about $190 billion of that tariff revenue is already allocated to other spending (and Congress holds the purse strings).

Most of us received around $1800 in 2020/21.

One debit card with $1200 on it in 2020.

And second card with $600 in 2021.

And some received a third card with an additional $600.

So this sort of thing has happened before. Therefore there's no reason to become unhinged over it.

Has it? A president just decided to offer $2,000 checks for no other reason than to provide relief for tariff policies that he single-handily implemented?

The answer to that is in the part of my post you snipped.

The U.S. federal budget deficit for fiscal year 2020 was $3.1 trillion, which was a record-breaking amount that more than tripled the deficit from 2019.

Trump's terrible decisions. They can only be fixed by another terrible decision.
What this ship of state really needs is a giant hole in the bottom of it. People will pay to look through it and see the fishes.

And how much that was due to covid lockdowns, shutdowns and quarantines?

Inflation is at 3%, higher than when he took office.

Gibberish.

Says who? And what's the stock market got to do with the economy?
We are taking in Trillions of Dollars
Receipt?

As usual, Trump is making things up, and some are foolish enough to believe it.
