Not defending Trump but it does beg the question of when that food was stored and for how long it has been collecting dust. Does anyone know what the shelf life of this food is?
Since January 20th, when USAID was shut down at least. Their contractors could have distributed it, but it is lost on no one that their biggest single contractor for that sort of thing was the Roman Catholic church.

Are you implying that the value of one child's life, or two children's lives, or the 1.5 million children who would get another week's worth of food would not be worth cost of distribution? If it were your child's life would you not believe that any price was enough?
From whose pocket?

Would that one store of food save their lives, or only delay their deaths?

All are free to donate to their welfare.

Well, this is a Christian forum so it's useful to know what the Christian position on the matter is. Thanks.

Got it but still does not tell us what the shelf life of that food was and how long it has been collecting dust in the warehouse.

Surprised he didn't throw it into the ocean in boston protesting wokeness.
That process is not without adding more to the dangerous level of the federal debt inherited from the last administration. . .which risks putting us on the same path as those who need our aid.

We won't get out of the hole by giving away more money, but by using it to get out of that hole to first save ourselves so we can then save others.

We have. We do. It's not enough.
Charity has had 6,000 years of failure--not because there are no good people, but because it's not enough.
You are suggesting failure is better?
Thank God we won't have NPR or PBS or Colbert anymore. The heartless were getting too, annoyed, and many are taking out their annoyance on the innocent. God help our world.

There have been various spins on what Trump is doing between cutting off medical and nutritional humanitarian aid. The general conclusions indicate millions of deaths; it seems this happens almost instantly.

Concerns were raised over possible cuts to the US foreign assistance for AIDS with the “Pepfar” program. This program was thankfully exempted from cuts at the last minute. There is much discussion on the remaining $9 billion cuts that will take effect. This figure includes cuts to government funded media outlets like NPR etc. Whatever one’s opinion is on these cuts, cutting funding for NPR has nothing to do with humanitarian aid.

There are other issues regarding the “humanitarian” USAID program beyond funding transgender puppet shows or whatever. Issues like USAID involvement in contracts shipping virus samples to the Wuhan lab in China. Why was this agency involved in this?

It seems there is more to this picture than meets the eye than the big bad wolf Trump & his yacht sailing buddies indulging themselves.

Why? It only delays their death.

Do you know that Americans spend more on pet food than they do on foreign aid? Even on an adjusted GDP per head of population the US is the tenth richest country on the planet (over a few very small countries like Singapore and Bermuda): The richest countries in the world

So please, let's not have any more bulldust about digging yourself out of poverty before you can help others. It's a pathetic argument.

And let's not forget to correct a misconception in the post you responded to, Bradski. Clare 73 mentioned "the dangerous level of the federal debt inherited from the last administration."

Both deficits are high, but Trump's was higher...and had Trump not initiated the irresponsible tax cuts for the super wealthy, Biden's deficits would have been more modest. Biden was stuck with the Trump tax cuts--although he tried to curb them for people with incomes over $400,000.

From AI summary: National debt during Joe Biden’s presidency has increased by $7 trillion since he took office, an increase of 24.75% as of September 2024. During Donald Trump’s whole presidency, the U.S. national debt increased by $8.18 trillion, a percentage increase of 40.43%.

Hint: We don't need to "dig ourselves out of debt" by letting children starve--both here and overseas. We can do it by ending the tax cuts for the very richest Americans.

And it's not just food: Trump administration to destroy nearly $10m of contraceptives for women overseas

'Trump administration to destroy nearly $10m of contraceptives for women overseas.

As part of president’s end to foreign aid, destruction of the long-acting contraceptives will cost US taxpayers $167,000

The Trump administration has decided to destroy $9.7m worth of contraceptives rather than send them abroad to women in need.
A state department spokesperson confirmed that the decision had been made – a move that will cost US taxpayers $167,000. The contraceptives are primarily long-acting, such as IUDs and birth control implants, and were almost certainly intended for women in Africa, according to two senior congressional aides, one of whom visited a warehouse in Belgium that housed the contraceptives.'

This isn't just politically or even morally wrong. It's bordering on evil.

Some folks here should charge Trump rent for living in their brains 24/7. There is more to life than bitterness.
Hey, we can all chew gum and pass gas at the same time. But you're currently in the political section of the forum as you read this, dealing with specifically US politics. Deal with it.

The U.S. Department of State (DOS) plans to destroy a reserve of artificial contraceptives that was previously set aside for distribution in developing countries through foreign aid programs.

The stockpile, including birth control pills, condoms, and long-term implantable contraceptives, is worth more than $12 million.

A senior State Department official confirmed to CNA that officials had concerns that some of the nongovernmental organizations previously contracted to distribute contraceptives may have participated in programs that performed coercive abortion or involuntary sterilization.

According to the official, the DOS is destroying the products to comply with President Donald Trump’s executive order to reinstate the Mexico City Policy, which bans taxpayer funding of organizations that promote abortion and forced sterilization abroad.

The Guardian is a rabid far left tabloid so I thought to get another perspective from the one in the previous post.

Some presidents end up with the brunt of a pandemic while other just ride the tail of it. Not defending anyone just citing the facts.
Wow, what a missed opportunity! If Trump had not been a bad role model, acting like a rebellious teenager in refusing to wear masks even where they were required; if he had not argued with and insulted the scientists who had spent their lives overcoming pandemics; if he had not pursued quack remedies like hydroxychloroquine and worse; if he had not held super-spreader events which killed one of his main supporters, Herman Cain, and almost killed Chris Christie; if he had acted presidentially instead of impulsively there wouldn't have been a tail end of it for Biden to ride on. TBT, I believe had Trump been reelected the pandemic might have killed another million Americans.
