In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

President Joe Biden on Sunday called the extraordinary fall of the Assad regime in Syria “a moment of risk” and “historic opportunity” while offering a blueprint for how the US plans to support the region.
Speaking at the White House in his first substantive comments since President Bashar al-Assad’s regime fell in the face of an astonishingly swift rebel offensive, Biden also announced the US had conducted dozens of airstrikes in Syria as it remains committed to preventing the resurgence of ISIS.

While Trump is negotiating peace in the world Joe orders air strikes.

Against a terrorist group.
Given all of the administration dishonesty I would like to see proof of what targets were actually struck by U.S. forces. Have their been any negotiations by the Biden administration to protect Christians in Syria?

CENTCOM has confirmed the attacks and what the targets were.

Negotiations with who? There are several factions that were involved in the ousting of Assad and there is still uncertainty about who will lead the country going forward.

ISIS, on the other hand, wants to fill the temporary power vacuum in Syria, and leaving Syria open to a terrorist group like ISIS would have a disastrous outcome not only for Christians but for everyone in the region. Trump said, "Let things play out; don't get involved," but we can't do that when we already have boots on the ground. Our soldiers in Syria need support, and that's what they're getting. The fight against ISIS will and must continue.

The Biden administration has claimed those taking over are terrorists. CNN has admitted that the Biden administration was "caught off guard" by the swiftness of the advance. The Biden administration should not be meddling in the internal affairs of Syria, especially in this fluid situation. Joe's irresponsible remark was the catalyst that caused Putin to attack Ukraine, Joe's order to pull the military out before the civilians in Afghanistan cost many lives, why in the world do Joe and his inner circle believe they can have a positive effect on the future of Syria?

Some of the factions involved in toppling the Assad regime are indeed terrorist groups, in particular the Islamist terrorist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).

CNN previously (see article below) that the Biden administration was "caught off guard" by the swiftness of the advance:
It wasn't just the Biden administration, the entire international community was caught off guard.

We need for Biden to stop getting people killed and stop killing.

All the killing has to stop. There's only a couple weeks left - can we stop killing people until someone competent to make decisions takes office?

That's what I want. Just stop with the death and destruction.

The United States is going to defend and protect its personnel and assets deployed in Syria whether Trump likes it or not.

Yeah well, from what I can tell Syria just fell under Bidens watch and he's decided it's time to try and manipulate the, now civil war between the factions.

This has not one thing to do with protecting our people.

I trust God to sort it out before I trust Biden. Everything he and Obama has ever touched has become death.

Biden needs to sit on his hands before he gets more innocent people dead. It's bad enough. All he knows is death and destruction. He needs to stop.

Just stop!!

Trump cares about American troops, that's not Joe's priority.. What Trump likely would have done is tell the various factions that they will face grim consequences should they attack even one U.S. soldier.

The airstrikes carried out in Syria were against a terrorist group that we have been trying to prevent from having a resurgence in Syria and the surrounding region. Should the United States and its allies go soft on fighting terrorism and allow ISIS to fill the void left in Syria until Trump takes office in January?

This has not one thing to do with protecting our people.
We have soldiers on the ground in Syria and there was an attack against one of our facilities. The air strikes had everything to do with protecting our people.

Yeah well, from what I can tell Syria just fell under Bidens watch and he's decided it's time to try and manipulate the, now civil war between the factions.
The civil war started in 2011, and Trump only made matters worse during his administration. If you will recall, it was Trump who abandoned our Kurdish allies in Northeast Syria, allowing Iran and Russia to fill the void in the region.

Trump can make all the threats he wants. It doesn't mean he will act on them.

Our troops came under attack in Iraq by Iran during his first term as president and he did nothing. In fact, Trump lied about the the attack and said, "The bombs never hit the fort, and that Iran did "a very nice thing” by missing.

None of those very accurate missiles hit our fort. They all hit outside, and there was nobody hurt, other than the sound was loud, and some people said that hurt, and I accept that,” Trump continued.

Trump added that Iran did “a very nice thing” by missing the military base. Photographs taken after the attack show extensive damage on the base.

The missiles carried warheads weighing well over 1,000 pounds, leaving impact craters that spanned several feet wide, according to CBS News’ “60 Minutes” and The Washington Post.

While no troops were killed in the attack, hundreds were exposed to blast waves, and many were evacuated to Germany for medical care. Weeks later, more than 100 troops were diagnosed with traumatic brain injuries. Dozens were eventually awarded the Purple Heart, including one retired major interviewed by States Newsroom in May.

Soldiers described lasting effects from those injuries as including chronic migraines, vertigo, short-term memory issues and vision impairment.

Oh please, just another attempt to improperly blame Trump. The guy goes on the initial reports he receives, although you can blame Trump for selecting General Milley and others. You conveniently left out the part about "109 U.S. service members have been diagnosed with mild TBI" and also left out "So far, 76 of those troops have returned to duty."

Even after he learned of the injuries and the damage to bases, he still did nothing.

American bases were attacked. US soldiers were injured. Trump did nothing.

How many soldiers, and how serious do they need to be injured before we respond to an attack? Should the US have waited until soldiers were killed in Syria before responding to ISIS?

Donald Trump has always been a stark advocate of defeating ISIS. And he made major gains and led many airstrikes against ISIS while previously in office.

I remember when that happened. If it was Bush in office, 110% of America would have responded. But with Donald Trump, nothing happened.

But it's also worth pointing out that Donald Trump, who claims to want to "stay out of it" with these foreign wars, was also the one who called for the airstrikes on Solemeini, to begin with. Donald Trump plays both sides. He also claims that the Ukraine invasion wouldn't have happened if he was in office, yet he was the one who was also selling javelin systems to Zelenski in preparation for the invasion.
