  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What advice do you have on, Food and Drink recommendation for preppers

I was looking at a pack of these protein shakes, they are 414ml each, contain 26g of protein, 50% daily value of calcium, as well as other nutrients. The good thing is that they don't have to be refrigerated as long as they remain unopened. I can stock these without worrying about them spoiling like milk does. I do know dry milk is an option, but I was thinking these protein shakes would help ensure I get enough protein in a day.

If I did choose the powder version of the protein instead, not only would that take up more time, water, I would also need to spend more on cleaning the bottle after each use, as well as water to rinse the bottle. Just for convenience I would prefer these ready to go shakes than the powder version, cost isn't a concern here. I am not prepping for long term, if the items can last at least 2 weeks to a month that's good enough for me.

Bread on the other hand can go bad fast, any quick options for foods that are high on carbohydrates, I would like your suggestions. they need to be able to stay fresh for at least 2 weeks.

I have been looking at, nature valley bars, kind bars, as well as cliff bars. Do you think those are any good for a quick breakfast when prepping? I have also found ready to eat peeled hard-boiled eggs in a tight container, they can last about a month.

Here is the nutrition label of the protein shakes I am asking about, what do you think?

Well, I am not a prepper, but this looks good. Has plenty of vitamins. 170 calories is not enough for a breakfast. If the average person needs 1800-2000 calories per day, and assuming you have three meals and a 200 calorie snack, then (2000 cal - 200 cal)/3 meals = 600 calories per meal. Assuming lunch and dinner have more calories compared to breakfast, then one could assume your breakfast could be roughly ~400-500 calories.

If possible, you could ask a doctor or nutritionist for recommendations for protein shakes. I am not sure why I am here in this prepper section of forum for you, but I know the world is getting bad, so it is good that you are practicing your prepping skills. For myself, I would probably not prep, but I do try to have a month or two supply of food on hand at any given time, in case of power outage, or if shipping delays happen.

I'm more concerned about the ingredients. Is it clean or have a bunch of chemicals?

Well, I am not a prepper,
I'm not either but who would want to live in a world that you need prepping for? Now it's ok to stock up when you have supply disruptions.

Yeah, I would not want to live in too much fear, though, I respect the preppers' decisions here, and want to stick to the rules of the prepper's section, so that is why I try to help give recommendations to the preppers for technology (solar, water generators, etc) and food.

We are warring against carbs. Useless sugars. On Keto, we cut our carbs down to under 30 a day. No potato, rice, bread, pasta, or any high-sugar food. You do feel better once you get through the keto flu. Not for everyone, but it works for me. I am a type 2 diabetic (I hold fast to the confession of our faith "by His stripes we were healed" and "bless the Lord of my soul, who heals all my diseases...") My sugar stays around the 100-120 range.

Different strokes for different folks and I do watch prepping videos. If I see some stuff coming I'll start making beef jerky and continue my gardening. My son loves camping so I bought him solar and water filters just in case he is stuck somewheres.

Nice. I am better with the tech side of things, hence why I run artificial intelligence, while others are better with the common-sense side of things. Yeah, if something bad happens, it is good to prep. Ever since the Ukraine war, I have always made sure I have three canisters of oatmeal at my place, in case oat prices go up for a month.

Camping is fun, though my parents never liked it, so I have rarely gone out and camped. Yes, those solar and water filters would help. Also, maybe buy him a solar radio, cos that stuff can help one know if severe weather happens.

I don't either too much of that in the Army plus I'm a princess when it comes to feeling grungy. I don't like the beach either with all that sand.

Where did you camp in the Army? Yeah, sand can get annoying, though, I like it in small amounts.

I have found some keto bread that I am happy with that does not cost too much. It runs around 3 to five dollars compared to one to three dollars for a loaf of bread. But Keto lasts a lot longer and a lot less gets thrown away.

I liked the K rations in the Army. There were people that refused to eat it and I was glad to take what they did not want. The "cooks" were pretty good at giving me what I wanted to eat so there was a good selection. I always buddy up with the cooks and tell them how wonderful their food is and then they will give me all I want and I never go hungry.

Thank you for your service. What were K rations made out of, and how many different varieties of K rations were there? It is cool that you used a suave personality to get extra food in the army. :)

They were in a can back then, I think they put them in a pkg now and they call them MRE's. We had a special key to open them that people joked about a lot. There was maybe 6 or 7 if them to choose from. If I remember they put the whole can in boiling water to heat them up. There were always plenty available because there were people that just would not eat them.

Whew, that is old school food preservation tech. Nowadays, MREs come in bags, if I am not mistaken. Funny how a key was required to open up the can.
