I have a question about the below passage from Jesus.&nbsp; Here is the passage:

Matthew 25:31&nbsp; When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

Matthew 25:32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:&nbsp;&nbsp;

Matthew 25:33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

Matthew 25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

Now I understand the basis of this judgment because Jesus goes on further into the passage by saying that because of the humane treatment these survivor gentiles gave to the persecuted Jews they will be granted entrance into the millenial kingdom.&nbsp; But here is my question, which I can't seem to reconcile in my theology, is this:

Bible-believing Christians fully understand that salvation is by God's grace thru faith in Christ's atoning work.&nbsp; No exceptions.&nbsp; However, this "seemingly" contradicts such essential Christian doctrine during the last days.&nbsp; In other words, it is God's sovereign right to elect&nbsp;from the foundation of the world, but how is treatment of the Jews during these days equal to&nbsp;eternal salvation?&nbsp; Am I making sense here?

It seems "works" &nbsp;plays a part in inheritance of the kingdom, which I can't reconcile with justification.&nbsp; Can any one explain? :help:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Okay, see this is the issue of the passage I don't understand regarding sheep/goats.

Talents/servants parable are for believers and they are to use their gifts accordingly. I don't see what that has to do with sheep/goats who are not believers in Christ. They are clueless when they stand before Him and surprised when granted kingdom entrance.

The sheep/goat judgment are for those who have no relationship to Christ previously, these are not included in the rapture which has already happen at that time. Yet these "sheep" outsiders because they have humanely treated the Jews with help outside of a relationship to Christ, so it seems, have been declared access to the millenial kingdom. In fact, I will submit to you it is these "thankful" gentiles/sheep from the sheep/goat judgment and the remaining Jews from the tribulation that will be the human citizens of the millenial kingdom to repopulate the earth of which Christ will rule.

So if my understanding of events are correct, then this seems to not square with essential Christian doctrine of justification and works is what has "saved" these post-tribulation sheep. Now I am at a crisis in theology. Where am I wrong?

What's your basis for saying those judged (sheep/goats) are non-Christians? I thought that most Christians believed that everyone's bodies would be ressurected, and then they'd go through this jugment?

Go back and read in my initial post Matt. 25:32 specifically, it says "nations" [gentile nations] into sheep and goats.&nbsp; If this were&nbsp;believers they would all be "sheep" however, they are not because Christ separates out "goats."&nbsp; So no, this judgment is not for the raptured saints, they are already gone from earth.&nbsp; This judgment takes place on earth immediately after Amaggedon.&nbsp; Nothing to do with church saints.&nbsp; What I am referring to is a separate issue.&nbsp;

Matthew 25
33He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.

The scripture itself&nbsp;will answer your dilemma.

Before conversion we cannot obey God and are clothed with filthy rags. Works cannot justify us. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

Romans 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

Galatians 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ...

After being justified by Christ and receiving Christ into our lives at conversion, now it becomes possible and necessary to obey. No more filthy rags. We have fine linen - the righteousness of the saints. God looks at our works and expects us to do them. We are created for that purpose. Now He writes His law in our hearts and we obey Him.

Revelation 19:8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

John 8:11...Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

Heb 8:10 ...I will write my laws into their hearts...

you know a Christian by their works. It's not the works that save, but they're the evidence of their faith.

What's the charateristic of the sheep's life? Obedience. They repented. They're saved.

What's the chatactersitic of the goat's life? Disobedience. They never repented, they were never saved.

To illustrate this, there is another parable like this one where it says, "and many will say, Lord, Lord, did we not cast out demons in Your name...." etc.... those were works! good works! even done in the LORD'S name! but what does Christ tell them? "I never knew you.."

This is an interesting subject, and certainly one of much debate, but I will give it a shot.

Man, made in the image of God, is composed of three parts, spirit, soul, and body.&nbsp;

The spirit of a man is composed of Communion(with God, which is dead from birth as a result of Adam's fall), Intuition, and Conscience.

The soul of man is composed of Mind, Will, and Emotion.

And, of course, the body of man is his flesh.

When a man is born again, he&nbsp;receives the Holy Spirit, which indwells, his human spirit and the two become one, as it is written;

1 Corinthians 6:17 - But <B>he that is joined</B> unto the Lord is one spirit

It is man's spirit that is saved when one is born again.&nbsp; This salvation is eternal, and the free gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast.&nbsp;

Believers will receive resurrection bodies or be raptured etc, at the appropriate time.&nbsp;

The parables such as the man that built his house on sand or rock, the parable of the four soils, etc, ie the parables that discuss works, are speaking of the SOUL, not the born again human spirit.&nbsp; Being born again is only the beginning, not the goal of the faith.

Faith, itself, is God's gift, as it is written;

Ephesians 2:8 - For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that <B>not of yourselves</B>: it is the gift of God:

IE, you are saved by grace, because of the gift of faith, which God gives you.

The goal of your faith is as follows;

&nbsp;1 Peter 1:9 - Receiving the end of your faith, even the <B>salvation of your souls</B>.

Everyone likes the aforementioned verse from Ephesians, but usually stop short of mentioning verse 10 from the same chapter as follows;

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Paul describes, in great detail, various types of works of believers and what will become of the works, as follows;

1Cor3:1&nbsp; And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. 2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. 3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? 4 For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal? 5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man? 6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. 7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. 8 Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. 9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building. 10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. 11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; 13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. 14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

Notice, that Paul is writing to carnal BELIEVERS.&nbsp; These are believers, but they are not mature.&nbsp; The entire cosmic battle between God and the adversary, is over who will control the&nbsp;WILL of men.&nbsp; We stand before the tree of knowlede of good and evil, and the tree of life.&nbsp; There is no middle road.&nbsp; One is life and one is death.&nbsp;&nbsp;Our goal as believers is to become spiritual, not fleshly or carnal.&nbsp; This is accomplished over time, not instantaneously.&nbsp;&nbsp;It is the byproduct of practicing the faith daily,&nbsp;following the&nbsp;Spirit, not the flesh.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Paul&nbsp;makes this&nbsp;statement to the church&nbsp;at Rome;

Romans 12:2 - And be not conformed to this world: but be ye <B>transformed</B> by the renewing of your MIND, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Renew your mind with the washing of the water of the WORD.&nbsp; The WORD will lead you into good works.&nbsp; The good works will, at first, be conscious decisions and actions on your part.&nbsp; But, eventually, through the constant practice of good works, you will be changed, transformed even, until works of the flesh are more foreign to you than works of the Spirit.&nbsp; Holiness is not a gift, it is an attribute that is cultivated, gaurded, and maintained.&nbsp; For it is said of the bride;

Revelation 19:7 - Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath <B>made herself ready</B>.&nbsp;

&nbsp;On a parting note, if you will look closely at the last part of the long quote from 1 Corinthians, ie, this,

If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

you will notice that the WORKS are consumed, yet the individual, is SAVED.&nbsp; The part that says "yet so as by fire", we will leave for another discussion.

Heya Ephod,

I believe the judgement of the sheep and the goats to take place in Rev20, just not at the great white throne, but at the point in time when satan is bound for 1000 years prior to the great white throne.&nbsp; The sheep continue to live on the earth, after armageddon and the glorious coming, for 1000 years, prior to the great white throne.&nbsp; If you want, I can go deeper as to why I think so, possibly on a new thread or something?
