Based on what authority do you feel you have to keep beating yourself up with your past mistakes? Does it say to do that in the Bible?
Guilt comes from the devil. Remorse comes from the Lord. He is really the one you need to apologize to. But once you’ve been sincere, and done that, he gets it. You you don’t have to act like he can’t hear well.
You can be remorseful indeed. You can even make reparations and ask for forgiveness where appropriate. you can pray for those whom you have hurt. You can pray for yourself!
Other than that, you need to be putting your thoughts on things of the Lord. Castigating yourself doesn’t do a bit of good to you, or anyone else, and can even be dangerous to your mental and physical health.
The devil wants you to keep tormenting yourself with guilt. That way you’re less effective for your heavenly father and his work. That way you’re not moving closer to your heavenly father.
The way to defeat the devil, is for one major way, to speak or sing the Word. Messiah defeated the devil, in the desert, simply by quoting Bible verses. When little Israel was being approached by great armies king Jehoshaphat sent out priests to sing praises before them. The enemies turned on one another, and all killed one another.
Paul and Silas got out of prison while singing, no doubt while singing praise songs.
David sang to king Saul to help give him relief from evil spirits.
You’ve got a choice. Stay on that hamster wheel with all those negative thoughts and feelings. Or get off by focusing instead, where the Lord wants you to focus, on his scriptures.
