• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

In July 2020 I was a corpulent 240. Add my hunchback from Ankylosing Spondylitis and I did not project a healthy image. Exercise and a calorie/nutrition app helped me to drop 30 lbs by June 2021. By summer 2022 I was 190 which is where I've been hovering since then. Need to drop another 20 or so.

Not sure how tall you are or your age, but you look to be doing well weight wise.
Thank you. I was 6'2" until I started shrinking due to my Ankylosing Spondylitis. My ribcage is still pretty big for a guy who is now 5'8" and a hunchback I could rock 190 at 6'2". At 5'8", I'm in dad bod range, but need to drop another 20.

Looking good! Congrats!

I thought you are talking about a mountain for weight loss because of the original thread title "Mt weight loss"

Because I sometimes ride my bicycle up on the mountains on weekends and I lose 4 to 8 lbs in just that one ride! It's literally Mt weight loss for me!

Congrats on your weight loss you did really well I wish I could drop some pounds I'm currently around 450 lbs. I'm supposed to talk to my doctor April 4th and see what he recommends. I'd like to be at least 300 lbs again.

You’re doing better than me. Sorry to hear about the AS, I don’t know much about it but I hope you get it under control.

^_^ I'm so bad with typos. That's awesome and I miss riding a bike.

Here in Dallas there's not much variation in topography so when I go for walks it's usually flat. Last summer I stayed at an estate on the coast of Massachusetts that a hill which I walked up and down numerous times during my morning walks. Back in 2016, when I was still smoking 2 packs a day, I couldn't imagine doing that.

Thanks. Hopefully you and your doctor can find a plan that works for you.

Thanks. Apart from the height loss and hunchback, it's not too bad. I've got some fairly advanced osteoarthritis in my hips and shoulders, but not so bad that I can't walk at a decent pace or used the elliptical. AS is like rheumatoid arthritis. The immune system attacks your joints. I get a biologic infused every 8 weeks to try and make my immune system play nicer with mine.

Very nice! I was able to lose 40 pounds and get to my desired weight which was not easy but I also was not dealing with the additional challenges like you and your AS. Very impressive. Best of luck on the 20 more you'd like to lose. Does lower weight help counter the effects of the AS?

Thank you and yes. I was a sloucher long before I was diagnosed or started losing height. Losing weight helps my posture and puts less stress on my hips, knees and back when I walk.
