So this happened...

This lady supported defunding the police....and like most other places, San Francisco saw a spike in crime. What a surprise.

Now when she calls the police, and the police tell her there's no one to send/deal with it....she's a little upset and wants the police back.

She hasn't even gotten to the bad part yet, you can't undo the damage done to the police with dollars. No one wants to be a cop now that not only is it a tough job...but one that's been placed under a microscope and demands perfection.

Nope....no easy fix for this. Is it possible to just sort of push San Francisco off into the sea?

My favorite is this lady....robbed while covering the spike in crime. Her private security stopped the theives from running off with everything. Average San Francisco citizen has a 1 in 16 chance of being a victim of violent or property crime.

Another beautiful US city utterly destroyed by the left.

Thoughts?

Is there anyone who is genuinely surprised that defending the police led to a spike in crime? We all saw this coming, so it is what was wanted by those who wanted to defund the police.

Many people in San Fransisco leave their car doors and trunks open to avoid break-ins. Being a victim of crime should not be an accepted way of life.

Crime spiked everywhere, not just cities that cut police funding.

It's a real shame. It may sound incredibly stupid and hard to believe...but those who backed "defund the police" genuinely seemed certain that police budgets were too high and that money was better spent elsewhere. They did believe that people are just naturally good and not going to take advantage of a lack of police. We're not talking about a bright group.

Dollar for dollar...police are one of the best investments a city can make.

Now the whole point of defunding the police was "police shootings"...which have only gone up since the defunding occurred.

Because they chose to defund police.

Sure. It's everywhere...but places that didn't defund police like Miami appear to be doing better. Be happy you're not from Portland.

There may have been the intent to cut the budget of the police dept. or redirect funds, but it never happened.

Local spending on police increased in 90% of locations we looked at from fiscal year 2019 to 2022. The San Francisco Police Department budget increased overall by 4.4% from 2019 to 2022, although SFPD saw a larger increase in fiscal year 2019-2020 before the budget dropped from that high point for the next two fiscal years.

That overall percentage is below the increases reported in Oakland, where police funding rose 17.9%, and in San Jose, where police funding increased 17.6%
"It was a painful sacrifice," Police Chief Bill Scott said of the $120 million cuts. "I said that then and I still say it now, but I understood it."

In a recent interview with Chief Scott, the I-Team found no active duty police officer positions were cut from that decision, despite calls from the community and elected leaders to do so.

So you are crowing about something that did not happen. Crime spiked all over in 2021.

Do you have data on crime trends in other western countries? I thought I’d read that they also saw spikes, but I’ve since had a hard time finding anything that addresses the subject.

"A new study comparing California repeat offenders who posted bail with those who were let out with low or no cost under "Zero Bail" policies found that the latter group reoffended more often, more quickly and were accused of 200 times more violent crimes"

What didn't happen exactly?

Is California not suffering the failures of catastrophically stupid policy decisions?

Edit-here's a good explanation of SF funding.

According to the mayor, they are reducing the police budget by not giving them the increases they normally would.

That's pretty fuzzy math, but you can read it either way you want.
