• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I was wondering if anyone has advice/could pray for me/maybe experienced similar things. I've been struggling with this for years and it's gotten really bad since I've left my church in 2020. I've been out of fellowship due to leaving my church and it hard getting connected with other believers these days. Anyway, when ever I TRY to read my Bible I get thoughts like "if you finish this paragraph in your Bible your going to belong satan" " if you don't pray right now in the middle of your study you'll be demon possessed ". Writing these out right now I am calm because I know they're ridiculous and unbilical, but when I'm alone especially when I haven't been in fellowship for these last three years I start to believe my ocd thoughts again. I need a snap back to reality but it's so hard when I'm dealing with the hurt from my old church and new churches in my area make it feel impossible to join. Anyone have words of hope for me ?

So you have a relationship with Jesus and you pray and you talk with Jesus, so what does Jesus have to say about those thoughts? Why don't you simply ask Jesus to cast those thoughts out when you have them? He has the power, He said you can have authority in His name, why not use that authority?

I do but nothing seems to happen. And then I'm constantly praying the same prayers. I believe the Lord can, but idk I'm still stuck like other people who have this disorder.

Its written if we resist the devil he has to flee. See no one has the right to control us unless we allow it. Fight the thoughts with Gods word. Say some thought comes your not save.. it is written for God so loved the world He gave His only son that who so ever believes in Him shall not die but have every lasting life. Some thought about sin.. its written if I confess my sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleans us from all unrighteousness. Fear .. no its written God has not give me the spirit of fear but of power love and a sound mind..

Going back to Church is wise. Isa 53:5 1st Peter 2:24. Peter and John said to them after the man was healed why look at us as if we did this by our own power its that name FAITH in that name healed Him.

I know exactly how you feel! I have religious OCD/scrupulosity, and have had similar obsessions. Have you ever been able to get help for your OCD, or to learn any strategies for dealing with it?

Whenever you get those thoughts, just tell yourself they're not true. They will probably come for a while, but the more you ignore them, the quicker they will disappear. Try to stay busy, if you can, and find community. Community helps me when I'm struggling with OCD. I find when I'm around other people, it helps me realize how silly the thoughts in my head are.

Remember, those thoughts are just neurotic OCD thoughts. They don't mean anything. Close your eyes and imagine for a moment that you never had to be bothered by those thoughts again. Feels nice, right? Why not just embrace that good feeling? You can be free of this. You will still get the thoughts probably, but the good news is... THEY MEAN NOTHING.

I'm sorry your old church hurt you, and I pray that you would find some Christian community.

Thank you for understanding. I have been taking medicine from a physiatrist since I was in highschool. Our phone appointments are very short though and I never get to really talk about my thoughts. I used to see a different physicist before this one who was horrible. My old Dr(who knew what my ocd thoughts were) told my mom and I to stop going to church because in her opinion it was making me think like this. I wasn't going to church at the time but a few times with a highschool friend. She also later in my twenties told me I needed to work from full-time to part time at my minimum wage job and instead go to school full time. Then when I finally built up courage to go to school it was "sooo your still living with your parents???" I was in my early twenties.she was a horrible person.

Thank you so much. That actually does really help. I needed to hear that they mean nothing instead of "just pray about it". Thank you honestly for understanding .

Yes, that does not sound like helpful advice. Are you able to find a therapist who knows how to treat OCD? If not, there is plenty you can do to learn to work on it yourself! How have you been doing lately?

Demons can not possess us if we plead the Blood of Jesus. If we know how to use the Blood they have to flee from us and leave us alone. I usually just sing one of the Blood Hymns and that works for me. Washed, cleansed, healed, and delivered through the Blood. The Precious Blood of Jesus.

Thank you for asking. I'm going okay. Some days are better. I really believe I need to be back in person fellowship. If you can please pray for me sometime this week about this. I need to heal from someone stuff and I do think a good therapist would be good for me
