Pro-Moscow voices tried to steer Ohio train disaster debate

Not long after the Ohio train derailment, pro-Russian voices on Twitter began spreading anti-U.S. propaganda about the incident.

Soon after a train derailed and spilled toxic chemicals in Ohio last month, anonymous pro-Russian accounts started spreading misleading claims and anti-American propaganda about it on Twitter, using Elon Musk’s new verification system to expand their reach while creating the illusion of credibility.

The accounts, which parroted Kremlin talking points on myriad topics, claimed without evidence that authorities in Ohio were lying about the true impact of the chemical spill. The accounts spread fearmongering posts that preyed on legitimate concerns about pollutionand health effects and compared the response to the derailment with America’s support for Ukraine following its invasion by Russia.

So what if fake accounts jump in on a real story? The same thing happens by the left every single day as they push propaganda on Twitter. That's why you don't take your news from Tweets, and review multiple legit sources, including local ones, and find out what actually happened.

That'd be lovely. Perhaps the folks buying into the "media/biden were ignoring East Palestine" propaganda could take your admonishment to heart.

Oh, did Biden rush right out to East Palestine to stand with the people who were damaged/poisoned? I must have missed that part. I remember it was several weeks before he even bothered to mention it.

People would do well not to listen to any of the other lies and disinformation in the past couple years, like how the
"vaccine will protect others", and the "laptop is "Russian disinformation", etc.

What good would be done by him taking a tour? Does that sort of dog and pony photo op pander to your sensibilities? Because it doesn’t do anything for mine. Were I a resident of that area, I would prefer a visit from the grunts who actually do the work -i.e. the sorts of folks who were on site very quickly.

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, entirely ignores a poisoning /sickness from a toxic chemical spill in a town in Ohio for weeks on end. Eh. Who cares? He never goes at all, despite telling media he will. He doesn't even mention it for three solid weeks, and he turns down FEMA relief. Biden said he would go to Ohio train derailment site. There is no trip currently scheduled.

Meanwhile, by sharp contrast, Florida is hit by a hurricane and mere Governor DeSantis is hands on, down and dirty, and has a road temporarily constructed in three days. “Within 24 hours after I asked FDOT to get involved, we had more than 130 trucks rolling in and crews got to work,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “We made it a priority and we didn’t just get it done – we got it done quick. So the video I watched of all the dead animals floating by was Russian disinformation?

It's rather transparent how much this administration hates it when anyone except them uses social media to spread disinformation and distort legitimate concerns.

I don't...I clearly recall the group of posters who defended the vaccine mandates and removing the right to bodily autonomy while simultaneously moralizing the wickedness of those who refused as "murderers" who were a threat to their neighbors.

What exactly is wrong with the talking point of Biden spending billions to help Ukraine compared to the rather lackluster response to the train derailment? Regardless of whether or not it was started by Russian bots, it seems like a rather valid point.

If you prefer, we could compare Biden's swift action on student loans when election time rolls around...and how he's more than willing to spend billions of taxpayer dollars on some Berkeley student's degree on Hating the US....yet doesn't say a word about Palestine except for his disapproval of the new Israeli settlements there.

He didn't roll it out until something like a year and a half into his term. That's your idea of swift? At the time, I was reading lefty comments complaining about how long it was taking.

Well a lie that's going to be exposed as a lie in a few short months has to be carefully timed or it won't win the votes of the easily duped. If it got exposed as an empty promise before the midterms....then it's not much use.

Reset...a London nonprofit that claims to care about big tech social media disinformation and distortion of facts...but only points out Russian bots. Apparently they don't care about misinformation from the FBI, big tech companies themselves, and advocate for the same kind of government oversight this administration seeks with its Ministry of Truth.

But hey....they're 10-50 nerds in London. Does the AP article indicate how they know Russian bots are behind this?
