• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I’ve read on the internet that doctors and psychologists are not for christians to visit because of their origin. Now I have terrible OCD and I’ve learned about ERP and want to apply that, but because of what I’ve read I don’t know anymore whether I should use ERP. And what to do if you have a symptom in your body which can be cancer and then you can’t go to the doctor?

I am sorry to hear this. From what little I know about ERP, it sounds like a method that exposes OCD triggers then helps you manage them in a safe environment. I can't see how this would change your relationship with Jesus Christ of Nazareth. I do think hypnotherapy is unwise as it is suggestive. This sounds more like a tool for better management. My thoughts on it.
My prayers are with you. Ask Him to fill you with His Holy Spirit daily. Blessings.

ERP can be very helpful for OCD! You can learn a lot about it yourself, although I think a therapist can be very useful for helping you to apply it (though it's important to find a therapist who knows how to treat OCD using ERP - not all of them do).

Are you by any chance on the Facebook group "Christianity and Anxiety Disorders"? If not, I recommend that you join, because there are many people on there with OCD, and many of them have gone through therapy, so they can provide useful advice about it.

Luke in the bible was a doctor. Illnesses are not just specific to the body(because we need doctors when we get sick), but illnesses can also be of the mind, so why do we scare people not to go to psychologists? It's true that not every psychologist is Christian(or Godly)(and we have to be careful not to accept every "UN-Godly" comment from them), but not every physical doctor also is Christian(or Godly), but we continue going to them. So feel at ease. As long as they can help you, get the help you need from them. God is not angry at you if you go to the doctors for help.

There's nothing wrong with going to therapy. I meet with my OCD therapist online every week or every other week. While I don't know if my therapist is a Christian, he often asks me cool questions like what can I apply from my faith in helping me through my OCD?
