No, that wasn't the start of it, either.

The the black nuclear family was first legally destroyed by slavery. Slave laws explicitly denied the legal existence of marriage of enslaved persons. While freed black people re-initiated marriage and nuclear families, Jim Crow continued the war on the black nuclear family by suppressing both the ability of black men to fulfil their roles as protectors and providers and black women as wives and mothers.

It was only after the passage of the Civil Rights Act that specific laws and policies, at least, were removed as impediments to the black family.

However, by that time other social issues impacted all American families, such as no-fault divorce, birth control, and radical feminism. The black family was the "canary in the coalmine" in this situation, succumbing first to the new toxic anti-family American environment.
Unbelievable. Read some actual history instead of propaganda!

Black two parent homes with a strong fatherly presence went from over 75% just before the Civil Rights movement to under 25% after 50 years of magical civil rights movement fairydust.

We can make up our own opinions but not our own facts.

Was Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. wrong?
Absolutely not. As a religious person, he had every right to engage in politics. Especially when other people of color were being oppressed.

Religious leaders should be preaching righteousness and speaking out against any unrightesousness that they see.. no matter left or right.
They should be helping their parisheners deal with the decisons of life and ensuring that they are aware of God's way. This includes being vocal on the actions of politicians as they are the ones that have our lives and laws in their power.

I agree, this verse is about as far as policital activism should go in a Church.

Therefore I [a]exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and [c]reverence. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior.

However i also feel that its not just the pastor's fault, we are being judgmental and outspoken of pointing out flaws of a church, yet the congregation fail to get together and pray for righteous leaders, and for God to uphold them. I think it works both ways, you get what you pray for and the majority of the flock dont pray for anything for the church.
