Elon Musk accused Apple of threatening to block Twitter from its app store without saying why in a series of tweets on Monday that also said the iPhone maker had stopped advertising on the social media platform.

The billionaire CEO of Twitter and Tesla said Apple was pressuring Twitter over content moderation demands.

Moderation is essential for growing a social media platform. Musk cannot ignore this if he truly wants to grow twitter and his profits. Elon might be doing this twitter thing for kicks though. Who knows what is in the heart of a billionaire?

It's possible that this is just a transitional stage. There are about as many Conservatives as Liberals in this country. Now that the Conservatives are taking over this now defunct Liberal hive; we might expect to see advertisers who support Conservative ideology begin to advertise.

You are probably right about that. I have never tweeted myself. This CF is the only social media in which I participate. I do dabble in comment sections of articles online. If Twitter is that unhinged I'm glad I don't engage there. I don't need more anxiety in my life. Nor do I need more attention.

CF has many opposing views without the insults and childish name calling. I wish more Christians would join this platform tho. It seems like slow motion compared to the rest of the internet lol.

I was wondering what that was about.

Go Musk lol. No one really ever tries to stand up against Apple and they should. We still play blind when it comes to how Apple manufacture's its products. Then what they charge just to have a "APP" in their store. App store.... countless apps that never get updated yet you must pay a monthly fee. Yes Android has many but not like Apple.

In this case I could careless. Well I have never used Twitter. So if Apple blocks it so what. Not going to hurt twitter in any way. There are still other was to get apps without Apple store.

Apple have all sorts of rules that app providers need to meet to be on their store.
And often these rules go beyond the law.

The guiding principle of the App Store is simple—we want to provide a safe experience for users to get apps and a great opportunity for all developers to be successful. We do this by offering a highly curated App Store where every app is reviewed by experts and an editorial team helps users discover new apps every day. For everything else there is always the open Internet. If the App Store model and guidelines are not best for your app or business idea that’s okay, we provide Safari for a great web experience too.

So here they are saying that the app store is a safe place but that things that don't meet the app store criteria are also available on the internet and you can use Apple's Safari to get access to that stuff too.

"guidelines arranged into five clear sections: Safety, Performance, Business, Design, and Legal"

  • We strongly support all points of view being represented on the App Store, as long as the apps are respectful to users with differing opinions and the quality of the app experience is great. We will reject apps for any content or behavior that we believe is over the line. What line, you ask? Well, as a Supreme Court Justice once said, “I’ll know it when I see it”. And we think that you will also know it when you cross it.
Under safety Apple has
1.1 Objectionable Content
Apps should not include content that is offensive, insensitive, upsetting, intended to disgust, in exceptionally poor taste, or just plain creepy.

This next one is probably most applicable to Twitter's current problems
1.2 User-Generated Content
Apps with user-generated content present particular challenges, ranging from intellectual property infringement to anonymous bullying. To prevent abuse, apps with user-generated content or social networking services must include:

  • A method for filtering objectionable material from being posted to the app
  • A mechanism to report offensive content and timely responses to concerns
  • The ability to block abusive users from the service
  • Published contact information so users can easily reach you
Apps with user-generated content or services that end up being used primarily for inappropriate contentographic content, Chatroulette-style experiences, objectification of real people (e.g. “hot-or-not” voting), making physical threats, or bullying do not belong on the App Store and may be removed without notice.

So it seems to me that they are trying to create a safe area, where people that want to be safe can go.

I do understand that there are many people on the USA political Right who have a perception that the Tech world is against them and that their political right voice is being censured.

But my view is that the political right voice doesn't have to be offensive insensitive upsetting, intended to disgust, in exceptionally poor taste, or just plain creepy. I'm sure if the the voice of the right is tailored in a way that fits with these boundaries then there will be no problems publishing them. It just seems to me that in USA, with media driven talking points, the right are intentionally trying to grab attention by saying shocking stuff. And that many on the Right just love this "trolling the left" stuff and find the typical political discussions/debates boring. And hence culture war topics rather than political policy discussions.

I say, good for Elon.

The idea that a leader of a company that does business with the CCP (due to their low-cost labor sweatshops) tries to get on his high horse and lecture anyone about ethics is borderline laughable.

"I'll do business with a nationalized foreign entity that engages in forced prison labor and pays kids a few bucks a day to assemble our iPhones...but a guy saying that he's no longer going to block people from expressing right-of-center views on gender issues, now that's where I draw the line!!"

Exactly what companies would those be? Presumably they would be companies that *don't* currently advertise on Twitter because it isn't conservative friendly enough. Would they have enough commercial power to keep Twitter afloat?

(I'm genuinely curious who these companies might.)

It is Apple's store, if you want to be on it you have to play by their rules. Not that this would stop anyone from downloading an app not on the store.
Very true. Yet the Apple way of doing things has always rubbed me the wrong way. Why should users have to go through their store for apps? Then again, Google doesn't exactly give me a warm fuzzy feeling, either.

So is Disney, but DeSantis found a way in his state to punish them.

Florida could only "punish" Disney because of that sweetheart deal to let them run their own thing. All Florida did was to revoke it. That's far different than passing a law to punish a specific company. There are ways around that, such as enacting broad laws that "just so happen" to target a specific company, but unless congress passed a law requiring all electronic devices to essentially be "jail break" devices, there's little it can do to Apple. It makes good talk, but I think it's nothing more than that.

You seem to agree that such a thing would be an unfair abuse of power. That means it is not "good talk". It is bad enough to rile up your base with empty promises of good things; how much worse to rile them up over empty promises of wicked things.
