Does this sound like bragging to you?

When my cross is heavy, I shall not be moved,
when my cross is heavy, I shall not be moved;
like a tree planted by the water, I shall not be moved.

The church of God is marching, I shall not be moved,
the church of God is marching, I shall not be moved;
like a tree planted by the water, I shall not be moved.

Jesus is our captain, I shall not be moved,
Jesus is our captain, I shall not be moved;
like a tree planted by the water, I shall not be moved.

Fighting sin and Satan, I shall not be moved,
Fighting sin and Satan, I shall not be moved;
like a tree planted by the water, I shall not be moved.
As I listen to the song, I keep hearing:

I'm closed minded, my mind is closed.
I'm closed minded, my mind is closed.
Just like the banks on Sunday morning.
Yes, my whole mind is closed.
I suppose the KJV version of the words is a little different, huh? ;)

Do you remember which one of Joseph's brothers Joseph had locked up in Egypt; and the significance it has to your post?

I give up. What is the significance?

I predict there will be a new thread on this forum, "My Benjamin Challenge", :)

What do you hear in this song?

I heard:
They wouldn't click
They held onto the ways, as kids, they all were told
They wouldn't click
They would not click the link to see what they could learn
They wouldn't burn
They were protected from ideas that would lead them to hellfire
They wouldn't click the simple link
So they wouldn't burn.
Was I close?

(I may need new hearing aids)

Do you like this song where they brag about being closed minded?

I prefer questioning. See Dare to Question.
Thank you for the inspirational song… I enjoyed it. Nice story also, but I remind you that you’re preaching to the choir with the topic of questioning. My avatar is ‘inquiring mind’ after all, whether you believe it to be the case or not. Reason does not always lead to a loss of faith for everyone, one or the other, as might be gathered from a sub-title (‘Faith or Reason’) in your story. If you are truly open, why not ‘Faith and Reason’?

But to the point here, since no one was there to witness it, the cookie-cutter academic teaching that rock layers were deposited slowly over millions of years is only speculative, and more importantly for evolutionists, necessary for TOE. Whereas, with rapid sedimentary deposits, like during the Genesis Flood, the order of fossilized remains found in different rock layers is not necessarily the slow, gradual order in which they evolved, but could be the order in which remains were buried and fossilized, as in a catastrophic flood.

If what you say is so -- and I have no reason to say otherwise -- then either God put them there when He cleaned up (landfill), or they were covered over by some cataclysmic judgment on the earth (catastrophism).
Your first explanation of the sedimentary layers, that these are large dumping grounds of fossils, makes no sense. The fossil layers are huge. They are filled with signs of life as the layers were layed down, including animal burrows through the layers and footprints. We see things like buried forests and sand dunes in the deposits. These were obviously part of the environment as they were put in place.

Regarding the size, take a look at this map of the Michigan Basin. It is bigger than the state of Michigan, and is over 3 miles deep. (The numbers in the map are the depth in feet to the base Precambrian rocks.)

precamb%20structure%20and%20rift-zone%20s%20mich.jpg

Below is an exaggerated cross section of the state. Notice that layers like the Devonian, Silurian, Ordovician, and Cambrian extend across the state. If this is a giant junk pile, somebody went through enormous efforts to sort everything out.

So no, this is not a large junk pit, and no, this is not a single result of one catastrophe.

There are other holes dug on the earth deeper than that.

Do they contain the same kinds of fossils, and in the same order?

Yes, in the maps above, each layer has characteristic fossils throughout the layer. If you drill anywhere in Michigan, you find things in the same order. The order of the periods is the same worldwide, except in special cases where it is clear that the rock layers were folded back over or under the other layers.

Actually I enjoyed the song too. I grew up on gospel music and still enjoy it.

But when I listened to the words, all I could do was shake my head about people singing about how closed they were to anything that might cause them to alter their views.

Well, what about reason? I see you’re from Pennsylvania and a Democrat… didn’t ‘reason’ lead to this guy getting elected there?

SHOW ME footprints in sedimentary layers of rock some three miles down.

Don't just give me vague charts and graphs and weird terms and tell me they not only pwn the Flood story, but they also show God didn't do this and didn't do that afterwards; then start talking about animal burrows and footprints.

All I see in those graphs and stuff are lines, goofy terms, and other things.

Let's see a footprint on the wall of a well hole some three miles down.

Mostly of discussions with you guys, who have supposedly done all that. I just ask questions and make alternative suggestions when your interpretations seem to differ from what the Bible tells us. When the Bible says something that seems to differ from your interpretation then I take the 'we do not know how God did it' position every time.
If that is the case, you chose a wrong position. When we do know we do know. We know we share common ancestor with chimpanzees, thanks to ERV’s. We know we descend from a long lineage of hominids thanks to a multitude of fossils like the Australopithecine fossils, the Synanthropes fossils and so on. There is no reason to think “we don’t know” when we do know.

I have been "forced to change my career" ;) a few years ago, and that pushed me to reopen science textbooks- mainly animal husbandry and the nutritional requirements of cattle and poultry. I am in awe about how much science knows on all matters and subjects and how much educational material is available for free, on all possible subjects. A real treasure trove for an Inquiring Mind.

And, what you suggest is truly skeptical thinking, which fails to recognize the power of God.
God's power vanishes at even the slightest for of skeptical inquiry? Based on your post it's Estrid that deserves the title of Inquiring Mind.

When I had asked you if you thought dinosaurs had lived long before humans, you replied, "Long before." So you seems to agree that dinosaurs could have lived long before there was a single human.

Your dispute seems to be with how long "long before" is. Why is that an important issue for you? After all, informed scientists have an overwhelming consensus that the earth is many millions of years old. Why do you dispute it?

I explain how we know the fossil record represents millions of years here.

Regarding flood geology, no, that does not explain it. I answer that here,

If the flood buried the dinosaurs, why does every dinosaur fossil fall in layers that date over 60 million years ago, and every human fossil in layers that date under 2 million years ago?
You can't explain it, so it didn't happen??? No thanks, I'm sticking with the Bible and still going with 'we don't know how God did it.'
That is not what doubtingmerle wrote. You have either a severe lack reading comprehension skills or are breaking the 9th commandment.
Summarized, doubtingmerle wrote that all he evidence is contrary to what a Flood would cause in the fossil record. NOT "we can't explain it".

Of course, it does... for those who think they have the answers. I think 'duped mind' is available.

Again, it is your interpretation of the evidence that you explain.
