LILITH - Hebrew Myths
From "Hebrew Myths" by Robert Graves and Raphael Patai

Some say the God created man and woman in His own image on the Sixth Day, giving them charge over the world, but that Eve did not yet exist. Now, God had set Adam to name every beast, bird and other living thing. When they passed before him in pairs, male and female, Adam --being already like a twenty-year-old man-- felt jealous of their loves, and though he tried coupling with each female creature in turn, found no satisfaction in the act. He therefore cried: "Every creature but I has a proper mate!" and prayed God would remedy this injustice. [1]

God then formed Lilith, the first woman, just as He had formed Adam, except that he used filth and sediment instead of pure dust.

From Adam's union with this demoness, and with another like her named Naamah, Tubal Cain's sister, sprang Asmodeus and innumerable demons that still plague mankind. Many generations later, Lilith and Naamah came to Solomon's judgement seat, disguised as harlots of Jerusalem. [2]

Adam and Lilith never found peace together, for when he wished to lie with her, she took offence at the recumbent position he demanded. "Why must I lie beneath you?" she asked. "I also was made from dust, and am therefore your equal." Because Adam tried to compel her obedience by force, Lilith, in a rage, uttered the magic name of God, rose into the air and left him.

I am a bible believing Christian. I do, however have a very unorthidox view of who Lilith was. (At least I think it's unorthidox) I think she was one of the Nephilim (giants) mentioned in Genesis 6:3-4 I personally think all Hebrew and Greek mythology stemmed from the actual Nephilim. (which all were disposed of during the flood of Noah). This would mean that Zeus, Hercules, Athena, all those mythical 'gods' lived right before the flood. I do not believe they were actual gods, I just think the legend got perverted over time. Simmilar to the legends perversion of placing her at the time of Adam.
What evedince do I have for this? Not much. Actually, the only evidence I have is in 2 Peter 2:4-5
"For God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah..."

In this passage the word for 'cast them down to hell' is tartaroo (the verb). This word only occurs once in the entire bible. It is borrowed from Hebrew mythology. Also, from what I understand, tartarus (the noun) is not actually Hell, but rather some type of holding pen in Hebrew mythology. (From what I understand)

At any rate, this has absolutely nothing to do with wether or not a person is a Christian therefore preoccupation with the subject is unwise. I feel really uncomfortable speculating any further. I am already drawing conclusions from the bible that are not at all essential to my faith.

In trying to understand ancient religions and myths, i have wondered about some things such as your ideas.

It is kind of interesting too see if all those pagan dieties may have actually been something like the Nephilim.
Very interesting...
