But does bowing the knee to Jesus mean that that person will be saved?
Might people not bow their knee because they see him as he is and recognise his majesty and authority?

I would treat our PM with respect and courtesy because she is the PM.
I don't have to join her party, agree with her policies or even believe she was the best person for the job.

No, I 'm saying that people see Jesus they will know, and see, who he is - and declare him to be Lord.
That doesn't mean that during their life times he was their Saviour, or that they suddenly become his children.

"All" is an adjective, so it must be resolved on the basis of the noun it modifies.

Pas is indeed an adjective.

Collectively it means some of all types.

Individually it means every one, all things, any, everything.

The important phrase is "in Christ" - all who are in Christ shall be made alive.
Not everyone is in Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:22 explained by Public Hermit

This is essentially a conditional statement.
It is upon the basis that all die in Adam that all also are made alive in Christ. Or better, if all had not died in Adam, then there would have been no need to make all (or any) alive in Christ.

If all died in Adam, then all are made alive in Christ.

The same set of people are being referenced in both the antecedent and the consequent. So, if "all" doesn't mean all in the consequent, then it doesn't mean all in the antecedent.

Modus tollens: If all are not made alive in Christ, then all did not die in Adam.

But, of course, all did die in Adam (according to the fans of eternal torment).

Therefore, all means all in both instances.

1 Corinthians 15:22
For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.

Let's look at the definition.

Philippians 2:10-11
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

Note on "acknowledge" in Philippians 2:11 from Strong's Concordance
S1843 eksomologéō (from 1537 /ek, "wholly out from," intensifying 3670 /homologéō, "say the same thing about") – properly, fully agree and to acknowledge that agreement openly (whole-heartedly); hence, to confess ("openly declare"), without reservation (no holding back).

Robertson Word Pictures

Verse 10

That in the name of Jesus every knee should bow (ινα εν τω ονοματ Ιησου παν γονυ καμψη). First aorist active subjunctive of καμπτω, old verb, to bend, to bow, in purpose clause with ινα. Not perfunctory genuflections whenever the name of Jesus is mentioned, but universal acknowledgment of the majesty and power of Jesus who carries his human name and nature to heaven. This universal homage to Jesus is seen in Romans 8:22; Ephesians 1:20-22 and in particular Revelation 5:13.

Under the earth (καταχθονιων). Homeric adjective for departed souls, subterranean, simply the dead. Here only in the N.T.

Verse 11

Should confess (εξομολογησητα). First aorist middle subjunctive of εξομολογεομα with ινα for purpose.

Lord (Κυριος). Peter (Acts 2:36) claimed that God made Christ "Lord." See also 1 Corinthians 8:6; 1 Corinthians 12:3; Romans 10:9. Kennedy laments that the term Lord has become one of the most lifeless in the Christian vocabulary, whereas it really declares the true character and dignity of Jesus Christ and "is the basis and the object of worship."

That's not what the verse says though.

"for as all die in Adam, so all will be made alive in Christ."
1 Corinthians 15:22 NRSV

It doesn't say "all who are in Christ shall be made it alive." It says "all will be made alive". How? "in Christ".

I know what you say is the common argument but it's clearly false, no?

Yes - but when a person sees Jesus, they will see him as he is, in his glory.
They will know all things, so they will know who he is, and they will know that the Gospel they heard about, and rejected, on earth is true.

That doesn't mean that they immediately have an opportunity to repent, believe in him and have eternal life. It also doesn't mean that they acknowledged him as Lord on earth.
Jesus said "whoever believes will have eternal life".
He said to Thomas, "you believe because you have seen. Blessed are those who have not seen and still believe", John 20:29.
Paul said, "we live by faith, not by sight", 2 Corinthians 5:7.
The author of Hebrews said, "without faith it is impossible to please God because anyone who comes to him must believe he exists and that he rewards those who seek him", Hebrews 5:11.

Anyone can believe in God when they see him.

How can "All with distinction" ever mean "all" at all?

7-5=7 ??????????????? (nope)

Read what I said - don't read into it.

"All in the Bible is used the same way as in English
All without exception
All with distinction
Context will determine the use."

I did not say it meant .... I said it is used.
Although... I know it is contaminating a word, but we, and possibly even you, have use it with distinction....And maybe you have a better way of stating it.

Example of distinction -

2Ti 1:15 This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.

We know from scripture that not every single person… or every single believer were turned away from Paul in Asia.....but most all believers had.

Rom 14:2 For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.

We can be fairly certain eating all things did not include rocks or even dirt.

Yes, it does. So what is the context of the second "all" in:

"for as all die in Adam, so all will be made alive in Christ."
1 Corinthians 15:22 NRSV

It's the "all" who died in Adam, i.e. all, unless you're maintaining that we didn't all die in Adam.

If a different category applies to the second "all" than for the first, what is it and why would Paul have expressed himself so unclearly?

1 Cor. 15:22

Superior Plan A

"For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. But each in his own order; Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ's at His coming, then comes the end, when He delivers up the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule and authority and power."

You are overlooking "in Adam" and "in Christ". All in Adam do indeed die, because this is our destiny since sin and death through sin entered into God's creation. Also IN CHRIST shall ALL be made alive. Who are the ALL in Christ? Every human? No! Only those who believe are in Christ. So ALL IN CHRIST shalll be made alive through Him.

Rev. 5:13

Superior Plan A

"And all created beings that are in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all things in them, I heard saying, To Him who sits on the throne and the Lamb, be blessing and honour and glory and dominion and power unto the ages of the ages"

Yes ALL will give honor and glory to Christ, that doesn't mean the ALL without exception will be saved! But it is only those who "work out your salvation with fear and trembling" that are eternally secure in Him. How are believers able to do that? Through God the Spirit working in us to both will and do of His good pleasure

Philippians 2:10-13 (KJV) That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

Anyone can believe in God when they see him.
Exactly. That supports UR.

Anyone who has knees to bow and a tongue to speak, in heaven and on earth and under the earth (in the realm of the dead), will whole-heartedly, and without reservation, acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord. No one can say that “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit. If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” you will be saved. Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living. (the reason for the bodily resurrection) Scriptural support below.

Philippians 2:10-11
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

1 Corinthians 12:3
Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.

Romans 10:9
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart
that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Romans 14:9
For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that
he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.

This is not an easy question that can be answered on a discussion forum.

All cannot always mean every single person in the universe whenever it is used. Sometimes, it means some of all classes of people. Sometimes it means all of a certain class. But it does not always mean the same thing.

Exactly! It is all without distinction, but not all without exception. IOW salvation for Gentiles as well as Jews.
