I just wanted to ask for prayers for my Dad, that he would come to know Christ and be saved. He's 81, his name is John, and he's really my only social contact, although we only get together once a week and then don't talk about much when we're together. I guess I'm about his only social contact as well. We're both basically loners.

Anyway, I've prayed many times that the Lord would show me an opportunity to breach the subject with my Dad, and that He'd give me the words to say. But whenever I think an opportunity comes up, my mind just goes completely blank. It's almost as if God is saying, "I have nothing for you to say." Long ago, I've said things, but my Dad couldn't be less interested in such things. He's not hostile, but rather indifferent. He's of the "Ok, that's fine if you believe that. Everyone's different" mentality. So I've been praying for my Dad, that the Lord would influence him to become interested in spiritual things, to come to Christ, and be saved. I figure God knows what to do. But then again, He works through people, so I'm not sure where I fit in, assuming I do.

So that's why I'm taking this step in asking other Christians to pray for my Dad. Perhaps Christ's "wherever two or more are gathered" rule will be what it takes. He also said that whatever we ask according to His will, He will do. Since He's not willing that anyone should perish, I can't imagine how He would not answer a prayer for someone to be saved. That certainly should apply if two or more are praying for that, right?

Understand the concern for family members. You've witnessed so he knows. Joining you in prayer.

Asking our Savior to help remove the blinders from his mind
. "...for their minds have been blinded by the god of this age, leaving them in unbelief. Their blindness keeps them from seeing the dayspring light of the wonderful news of the glory of Jesus Christ, who is the divine image of God.". (II Cor 4:4)

Hi if your dad is interested in world events and all a guy named JD Farag posts a weekly prophecy update and at the end of everyone he gives the ABC's of salvation. Many many people have been saved through these messages. search jd farag .org prophecy updates

I don't remember right now, but do you attend a church?

If so - ask your dad to go with you. Tell him you both need out of the house for a while, and church sounds good and you don't want to attend alone.

That's what I would do with my son if I could get him past the threshold of a church - but my son acts like he might burst into flames or something if he ever did... Lol.

I'll definitely be praying with you brother .. God bless you.

My dad also needs to know Jesus is real and he is 82, my mother has preached to him, but for him the gospel is for the 'weak' who need something to comfort themselves, i pray every day that he is saved, Jesus have mercy on my dad and the OP dad.

He's interested enough in world events to listen to conservative talk radio, and he often comments to me about things he's heard, but he also includes that he wishes they didn't get into religion all the time. I've always hoped that the link between "religion" and what he hears about on the radio would spark an interest in him to learn more about it (that's what got me interested), but that doesn't seem to be happening. I thought it would since it's being linked to what he is interested in hearing. I also told him that there were a couple of programs on what he would consider to be a religious station, but he wasn't interested enough to listen to what I was saying. He just changed the subject to something else.

My grandmother (Dad's mom) had talked to my Dad about it too when she was alive. No effect there, but that's not too surprising if you knew how my grandmother was. ;) but that's a different subject. :D

Write him a letter ... say what you want to say in the letter... and leave it with him next time you visit.

I actually did something like that awhile back at a time when I was absolutely convinced that the rapture was about to happen. It was when I used to live with him. I had written a note for him to find in my bedroom after I was gone. One day when I came back from being out for awhile, I noticed that the note had been moved. That was when I not only knew that he had read the note, but that he had also been going into my bedroom and going through my things without my knowledge when I wasn't around. He never said anything to me about it, but I was glad he had read it.

I pray that God would work in your father's heart to give him a hunger for Jesus. I also pray that God would fill your mind with words of wisdom that would explain the Gospel to your father.

Thank you to all who have prayed for my Dad! It means a lot to me to know that I'm not alone in praying for him. I thought my own prayers wouldn't be ignored by God, but remembered the "wherever two or more are gathered" verse and thought maybe it takes more than one to ask and receive an answer. Could He possibly not respond to a prayer for someone's salvation if 10 or more are praying? :prayer: :prayer: :prayer: :prayer: :prayer: :prayer: :prayer: :prayer: :prayer: :prayer:
